Strap in - it’s a long one, but worth the read. 📖

Lately we’ve seen a lot of discussion around tattoo pricing, and honestly, we get it. Tattooing is a luxury, and for a lot us cost matters. This post isn’t about shaming anyone for having a budget - we understand that completely.

What it is about is helping our customers understand why prices vary so much, and what you’re actually paying for when you book with a professional artist.

A tattoo price isn’t just about the time spent with a machine in hand. It covers years of experience, design time, sterile equipment, high-quality materials, safe practices, studio overheads, and knowledge. Even the smallest tattoo still requires the same setup and hygiene standards as a larger piece.

When prices seem unusually low, it’s worth asking why. Are corners being cut? Are proper safety standards being followed? Is the artwork original? These are important questions when you’re trusting someone with something permanent.

Cheap tattoos can come with hidden costs - touch-ups, cover-ups, reworks, or even removals and more often than not, fixing poor work costs far more than doing it properly in the first place.

We also want to talk about originality. If an artist is using AI-generated imagery to advertise, it’s worth asking how much of the creative process is truly their own. Custom tattoos should be designed with skill, thought, and an understanding of how artwork fits the body - not just generated in seconds.

At Sacred Dagger, we believe quality doesn’t have to mean overpriced. We aim to keep our pricing fair, our standards high, and our work honest. No corners cut. No shortcuts. Just solid tattooing, done properly.
