Hello, I’m Kirsten 👋 I’m the founder of Awen Mor Chamber Choir!
I grew up in Cornwall, where singing was always a major part of my life — through local music festivals, concerts, and many weddings over the years. Singing was something I enjoyed, but it wasn’t until I moved to Bath to study music at university that I discovered chamber choir singing.
While I was there, I was invited to join Noctis Chamber Choir, a group of around 14 singers, and completely fell in love with that small-ensemble way of working. I loved it so much that I stayed on in Bath after university, continuing to sing with Noctis while working there. Those years of singing were some of the most musically rewarding I’ve had.
At the beginning of 2024, the pull of home and family became too strong, and I moved back to Cornwall full time. I knew Cornwall has a rich choral scene, and I spent time looking at what was already here. I quickly realised how much I missed that chamber choir experience. When I started looking for something with a similar small, collaborative feel and a wide range of performance opportunities, I couldn’t quite find what I was looking for.
So I decided to take that idea seriously and see whether there might be interest in a chamber choir like this here in Cornwall. That’s how Awen Mor came about. We’re very much at the beginning, but it’s been exciting to welcome singers already, and to start building something new, adding another strand to Cornwall’s choral scene.
If you’re curious, thinking about joining, or just want to know a bit more — we’re particularly looking for lower voices — I’d love to hear from you. Drop me a message or email [email protected]
