A short introduction to our wonderful featured artist James Osborne.

James is a Hampshire/ Cornwall based artist. His practice is primarily concerned with the representation of landscape and space. With an affinity for the sea and the rugged coastal-scapes found along the south west, his paintings and drawings explore the connection and solace found in the natural land space - eloquently capturing the moments of stillness through a collaboration of observation and memory.

‘I enjoy the tactility of the process, finding and feeling my way through the surface. It allows me a slower and more present approach through which I engage with the world around me. Something I value in a time that has become more digital and faced-paced’
James Osborne

Beautiful work by

Rhianna Spyrou creates one of a kind, beautiful jewellery. Closely linked with nature, they have a magical air about them. These beauties can all be bought through messaging the page and will be sent out first class as soon as possible.

Artist Statement:

During my Art Degree, through personal growth and development I created
SpyrouAndSprout with creative freedom and the natural world in mind. I have a deep
desire to reconnect myself and others to our roots, mother nature. I work with natural
and recycled materials to minimise the waste we create that harm the earth we
inhabit. All of my Jewellery is made with high quality materials; Sterling silver
findings. I continuously make a conscious effort to be as sustainable as possible with
my use of materials. This applies to all of my art practices, including my abstract
landscapes, made from a range of handmade, natural pigments and oils to capture
the feeling of a moment and place.

Demelza is the founder and co-manager of Amphitrite, as well as training to become a barrister. Her passions lie in life drawing and oil painting, as well as photography of her native landscape of Cornwall (on her antique hasselblad), in an eternal attempt to capture the ever-changing sea.

“Through each medium I am inspired by natural forms, whether of the human body, the sea or the sky. I am always amazed in the freedom and beauty of natural lines and formations.”

Demelza runs the life drawing workshops here at Amphitrite and attempts to draw on a new technique or artist each session, to which everyone is equally welcome. Demelza has an MA in literature from the university of Edinburgh and specialised in feminist literature, an area which she is keen to bring to the gallery by highlighting up and coming female artists.

Introducing: .lou

Annie's photography captures the relationships between people and the Natural world. How we connect with nature and how our body's respond to it, aligning with the earths natural patterns.

For the past four years her work has been purely based on the natural world. Be it documentary projects on sustainable ways of living or hiking across Montenegro to promote a lifestyle of adventure and eco-centricity.
Lately her project has led Annie to photograph the human form at its most organic, photographing people who live by the philosophy of nudism in the light of being at one with nature. Free of judgement and unconfined to limits of a society that many feels alienates them.
Having graduated from Press and Editorial Photography at Falmouth University and now studying Her Masters in photography, Annie has been working towards her goals of documenting sustainable living whilst also striving to become part of the change in the world she believes in. The beauty and human destruction in nature motivates the work you see here, as Annie aspires to photograph the world the way she sees it hoping that it will eventually come to pass.
lou has been doing the photography for Amphitrite along with running the social media.

Hello from all of us here at Amphitrite!
We look forwards to showing you what we have in store once things have settled. With lockdown limiting what we can do in store, it has however given us time to work on our space and we have exiting online content and an online shop coming your way.
Staying mindfully creative can help during a time where we’re locked inside, we’d love to see what everyone has been creating! So ask people to tag   to show us what they’re creating during lockdown and we’ll share on our stories!

Welcoming us into the new year and our next team member to be introduced is:
Neve Clarke, a Fine Artist specialising in printmaking. She is currently studying Fine Art in her third year at Falmouth University.

Through forming collaborations with the non-human forms that surround her, Clarke creates conversations with living, organic entities to bring an energy into her work. Using printmaking and drawing to visualise these encounters, she uses mark making to form a visual lettering within the language she has created. She often returns to the landscape where these works were created in order to give the work back to the land, ensuring a conversation between artist, nature and the artistic process itself. clarke.art has been hard at work with our artist outreach and PR.
Watch this space for all the exciting things we have in store for 2021.
