We’ve only just got going, please help us ensure that Pen*stone Film Festival 2026 is not the last!

Pen*stone Paramount is a treasured community asset, and Barnsley Council should reverse their decision to shelve this project.

Get ready for one of Buster Keaton’s great silent comedies as Battling Butler comes to the historic Pen*stone Paramount.

A pampered young man is mistaken for a champion boxer and finds himself suddenly thrown into the world of professional boxing with predictably chaotic consequences.

This special presentation is part of our collaboration with the **International Buster Keaton Society**, bringing together classic silent cinema, live performance and the enduring legacy of one of cinema’s greatest physical comedians.

FROM VAUDEVILLE TO AVANT GARDE

Three very different films exploring the possibilities of silent and visual cinema:

- Putting Pants on Philip
- The Lucky Dog
- Film

And NO, that is not a mistake, "Film" is being presented completely without music.

That’s deliberate. 'Film' was created around silence itself, and for our presentation we are following the BFI's screening rights requirements, meaning we do not add a musical accompaniment.

A very different way to experience Buster Keaton on the big screen.

On Saturday 17 October, you’ll have early access before the general doors open at 10am, a posh VIP headrest cover to reserve your chosen seat for the day, a goody bag of treats and your VIP wristband.

I wonder if the ethos of the following statement by Fred Crawshaw, applies now as it did in 1904 when he wrote about the church history.

In the hope and belief that at this period in the history of the Church of Pen*stone, when the eyes are turned to that lofty tower and fabric, which has been handed down to them through the centuries, preserved and cared for by successive generations. When it is in the heart of the people to act their part in its history, to arrest its decay, to restore and renew its weather beaten stones. To maintain in its integrity for future generations this glorious inheritance.
