Happy Friday Toerags and Lovelies.
I started Wee Cheeky Toerag when I gave up my job in homeless prevention because of mental health. My mum had passed and PMDD at menopause was playing havoc with my mind and body.
Creativity was my medicine at this time and daring to be a Wee Cheeky Toerag , when confidence at rock bottom, was a total lifesaver.
Recently things have been very jaggy and abyss like in my mind . I could not summon any satisfaction or release in creating. It was terrifying to lose the will to make , in case I was going under without my creative life jacket.
Being long in tooth I live by the Buddhist Teaching of Chop Wood Carry Water, Which I think just means don’t be too attached to the brain weather and keep going with the basics.
This week our geriatric cat was given new medication. He has dementia and a host of other ailments and It had become routine to be wakened by him several times a night. I had not made the connection that sleep deprivation is torture until I got a nights sleep without being woken by yowling. I felt so much better. He is on painkillers now and I got my first uninterrupted sleep in years. Anyhow we love our old boy. He is still enjoying things but with just that proper rest courtesy if his meds, so am I 💚
The message in this post is Chop Wood Carry Water is a brilliant signpost in dealing with life but also looking after the basics also means self care.
Self care is essential and not a luxury.
When you are exhausted , in pain and low in resources the brain sees things through a dark curtain. It takes all the joy from all that you love. So don’t suffer in silence.
I hope you all take care of yourselves. The beautiful world can feel dark and heavy if you are sensitive to it’s suffering so we need to look after ourselves and each other.
I really hope that sleep returning means my creativity will flow instead of being blocked and the business is not just a chore. 🙏💚
