Glass By Design Penarth - Handmade in Wales Glass By Design has been delivering high quality art and craft workshops for the last 8 years. Hence, Glass By Design was born.

We specialise in fused and stained glass, but also offer workshops in bubble enamels, dichroic jewellery, needle felting, gilding and papier mache sculpture. Angelina & Cathy met by chance whilst selling their work in Penarth, Christmas 2013. Their shared love of all things glass saw them develop a friendship & continue to work together. Their first idea was to develop an Open Studio trail for any

local artist/ crafter during the annual Penarth festival that following summer. It has fast become an established part of the festival & is developing year on year. They then joined a designer-maker section in a local Penarth shop where their customer base was steadily growing. Customers embraced the idea of bespoke, locally made pieces, rather than mass produced imported ones that have saturated the marketplace. Their next logical step was to be able to work on site & pass their love of the process of hand making in glass to others.

Master Gilder, Richard Walker will be visiting us on August 22nd & August 23rd. He will be teaching two superb Master Classes in Gilding with Gold Leaf and Contemporary Kintsugi.
August 22nd 10am to 4.30pm
Gilding - Learn how to gild from an expert! Richard will teach you how to mix your size, apply gold/silver/copper leaf, and numerous surface techniques which will elevate your work. If you are interested in interior design, upcycling or are an artisan maker you will love this workshop!
August 23rd 10am to 4.30pm
Contemporary Kintsugi - Are you a ceramicist? Fancy never having any wastage again with cracked pots? Or do you have a broken pot of sentimental value you want to fix? Learn this technique to fix your items with pure gold! Like the sound of the workshop but have nothing to repair? Bring a new item, and you will smash it up and then repair it!
