Tweed Theatre

Tweed Theatre Local amateur theatre group The group gone on to become one of the biggest one of its kind in the Borders.

We are a community theatre group, based in Peebles at the heart of the Borders.Tweed Theatre began in 1979 with a conversation between Bill Harvey, a community policeman, and Paul Taylor, local librarian, in Peebles Library. Subsequently, at a meeting in Bill's house just before New Year in 1979, eleven interested individuals agreed to establish the group. Bill was very much the driving force in the early years and within 12 months an evening of short plays and a pantomime had been produced.

To anyone who follows Tweed Theatre or who would be interested in joining our happy band, we are having our Annual General Meeting tomorrow at the Drill Hall at 7.30 pm. I know these meetings can be a bit of a dry affair, but we usually get through the business bit fairly quickly before we can chat and welcome new folk. Leave your car at home if you fancy a cheeky wee glass and a chunk of cheese!
All are welcome.
(Picture there to grab your attention Taken at last year’s meeting ! Not!! ) 🤣🤣

Fresh from the success of the Vicar of Dibley, Tweed Theatre is already planning its autumn Production, Whisky Galore. This was planned for performance in 2020 but a certain virus put the kibosh on that. Sam French has decided to revive it, with even better and bolder ideas than before.
It’s 1955 and an all female theatre company is putting on a play. In this play-within-a-play scenario, the well-known story is retold by dividing up 25 characters among a hardworking cast of 7.
Interested? Gender roles are fluid and Sam is looking for a mixed cast. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, 12th May at the back room of the Drill Hall at 7.30pm. Everyone welcome. If you’re not a Tweed Theatre member, it doesn’t matter! Come along and find out more.

And it’s a wrap. The Vicar of Dibley can now hang up her cassock, with the knowledge that four full houses have laughed and cheered at the antics of the Dibley parishioners. It’s been a very happy production and Tweed Theatre is grateful to everyone who came along, to the lovely Eastgate staff and to our families who have patiently supported every one of us.

Can we ask on behalf of all the players and Production Team of the Vicar of Dibley that you dig deep down the backs of your sofas, into your piggy banks, into that little pile of loose money that you have on your bedside table - bring it along to the Eastgate Theatre on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. You may have noticed that the rights to perform this play have gone straight to Comic Relief so already they have received £500 but we agreed to put out a collection bucket for the generous people of Peebles !
There will be programmes on sale for those of you who like a souvenir or to see who’s who and what’s what with any Production and if all your change has gone into that collection bucket, we have a SumUp machine for the programmes. We are so looking forward to getting onto the stage at last and we hope that you will enjoy this fun show!
