Joining us at Paisley Abbey on 22nd March are our soloists Catriona Hewitson (soprano), Mollie Quinn (mezzo soprano) and Javier Checa (tenor).
Catriona Hewitson
Named as one of Opera Now’s 2022 Hot List Young Artists, Edinburgh-born soprano Catriona Hewitson won the 2018 Kathleen Ferrier Loveday Song Prize and was a Scottish Opera Emerging Artist. On the concert platform, she performed in recital with Malcolm Martineau for BBC Radio 3 and debuted at the Royal Albert Hall. She made her home concert hall debut at the Usher Hall conducted by Sir James MacMillan and made her solo debut at the Edinburgh International Festival with James Baillieu.
Mollie Quinn
Mollie Quinn is a Scottish Mezzo-Soprano in her final year of undergraduate studies on the Vocal Performance Course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and studies under the tutelage of Wilma MacDougall. In her second year of BMus, Mollie was selected to represent the RCS at the Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary for Young Singers Competition and recent highlights include 'Third Boy' in the Alexander Gibson Opera School production of Mozart's The Magic Flute. Alto soloist in Mozart's Requiem, conducted by Derrick Morgan, and in Bach's St John Passion at Glasgow Cathedral, conducted by David Watkin.
Javier Checa
A graduate in Singing from the Madrid Higher School of Singing, Javier pursued his musical studies at the Málaga Conservatory of Music and the Manuel de Falla Conservatory in Cádiz. His career as a professional choir singer began in 2003 with the Madrid Community Choir (ORCAM); he has been a member of the Spanish Radio and Television Choir since the 2016 season and of the Spanish National Choir since 2018 as an advanced vocalist. Since the 1994-95 season, he has participated in operatic and symphonic-choral productions at the Royal Theatre (Madrid), Gran Teatre Liceu (Barcelona), Teatro Monumental (Madrid), National
Auditorium (Madrid) under the direction of conductors such as Mark Minkowski, Pekka Salonen, Pichas Steinberg, Jesús López Cobos, William Christie, Michael Corboz and Alberto Zedda.
