Final reminder that I will not have a stall at Sidmouth Folk Festival this year. However I will be around on Friday and Sunday to collect any work that I can take back to the workshop and return after the festival. Most likely place to find me will be in the Radway.

If you are bringing work for me, please make sure that it is labelled with your details, so that I can get it back to you.

I'll also be there on Saturday, but as I'll be playing for the far-famed Grimspound Border Morris, I'll not be in such a good position to collect work.

SIDMOUTH FOLK FESTIVAL. Just a reminder to my regular (and other) customers that I will NOT be working at Sidmouth Folk Festival this year. However, I am still working from home, and if anyone wants their bow re-haired before the festival, send it to me in good time and I'll get it done. I may also be able to deliver bows back on the first few days of the festival, and collect work to do afterwards.

I first had a stall at a folk festival in 1997, and have run the Masonic Hall music fair at Sidmouth since 2003. However, I'm not getting any younger, and I have decided that I am no longer fit enough to do all the lugging about of stock and the setting up of stalls. As a result, I will NOT be working at Sidmouth this year, or at any other festivals (with the possible exception of FolkEast).

I have not given up working. I am still making bows, and repairing violins and bows, but only at my workshop. Last year I re-haired in excess of 20 bows at Sidmouth for customers. This year I won't be doing this, but I will be around Sidmouth on the first weekend and I'm happy to collect bows to take home and work on, and post back after the festival. For the rest of the year my normal mail-order service is available.

Thank You to all my customers over the years.

I recently made two 'transitional' bows for customers. While one was delighted with his, the other couldn't get on with hers and has returned it to me. As a result I have one 'Dave Shepherd' pattern bow available for sale, at the original price of £250. Stick length is 663mm, weight is 48.4g.
Future bows on this pattern will only be made to order and will have a base price of £270

Not often that I work on two bows of the same pattern at the same time. Both these commissioned to a 'transitional' pattern, designed to be played with the stick approximately straight at tension. Going out shortly

What am I working on at the moment (apart from repairs)? These three. Still a fair amount of work to do to finish them. For those curious about the slightly odd 'transitional' bows, last year a customer sent me a photo of a (presumably) reproduction bow and some very basic measurements and asked 'can you make me one like this?'. So I did, as an experiment. Now I have two commissions to make bows on the same model, so it looks as if it will become one of my standard offerings. Richard Buxton, one of these is yours!

One of the more fiddly jobs that I get. These curved heel plates take a lot more time to fit than the straight sides ones. Pictures of the finished job will follow in due course.
