We warmly invite you to audition for our upcoming production of A Very Expensive Poison, by Lucy Prebble.

Auditions are on:

Saturday 9th May 3pm St Giles Hall

Wednesday 13th May 7:30pm St Margaret’s Institute

All experience levels welcome, no monologues required.

ABOUT THE PLAY

A smash-hit West End success, A Very Expensive Poison is a darkly comic tale of Kremlin scheming, chaotic hit men and ruthless politicking that led to one of the most famous assassinations of modern times.

Full of theatrical invention and with a wide range of fascinating roles, A Very Expensive Poison deconstructs events leading up the death of Alexander Litvinenko – despite the best efforts of our ‘host’ Vladimir Putin to persuade us “there’s nothing to see here”.

Roles (any gender, unless specified)

Alexander Litvinenko (30s-40s, male) – reluctant campaigner for truth (note: you will not be required to shave your head for this role)

Marina Litvinenko (30s-40s, female) – passionate defender of her family

Vladimir Putin (40s-50s, male) – corrupt autocrat of Russia

Inspector Hyatt (30s-60s) – local cop who finds himself in an international scandal

Boris Bereszovsky (40s-60s) – larger-than-life oligarch

Andrei Lugovi & Dimitri Kovtun (any age) – dubiously skilled hit men

Detective Sergeant Hoar (any age) – dutiful cop

Emmerson (any age) – Bowie-loving solicitor

We are also looking for 3-4 performers to play a range of FSB agents, oligarchs, doctors and lawyers.

Ronin Theatre is opening the doors on our most ambitious production yet: A Very Expensive Poison by Lucy Prebble. A dark comedy built from a real-life political thriller, told through puppetry, cabaret, and the kind of theatrical chaos we absolutely live for.

After the sell-out success of our last show, Quiz, we're going bigger. Bolder. Stranger.

And we need a LARGE cast to pull it off.

Auditions:
🎭 Saturday 9th May, 3pm at St Giles Hall
🎭 Wednesday 13th May, 7:30pm at St Margaret's Institute

All experience levels welcome. No monologues required, just turn up ready to play.

Performances will be from 26th October to 1st November 2026.

On behalf of everyone at Ronin Theatre Productions, thank you to every single person who came to see Quiz. Your support, energy, and enthusiasm for this production meant the world to us, and we are so grateful to everyone who joined us at the Old Fire Station.

Our heartfelt thanks go first to the team at the Old Fire Station. Your professionalism, warmth, and support made this another brilliant Ronin run, and we are always so grateful to work with you.

Catherine Woolley, thank you for your fantastic costume work, which helped bring this world vividly to life.

Thank you to Eloise Sheffield for your brilliant sound design, which captured the tension, pace, and atmosphere of the play so perfectly.

To Will Pennington, thank you for the lighting design, which shaped the space so effectively and supported every shift in tone, from the glamour of the studio to the intensity of the courtroom.

To Cate Nunn, thank you for the graphic design work that helped define the visual identity of the production.

To our phenomenal cast, Rob, Nicola, Phil, Clare, Matt, Alison, Jo, Beckie, Kate, Ellen, Rachel, Edward, and Ralph, thank you for your talent, dedication, and generosity throughout the process. Quiz demands precision, pace, intelligence, and enormous versatility, and each of you brought that in abundance. We are so proud of what you created together.

And finally, to our directors, Alistair Nunn and Jessica Reilly, thank you for your vision, rigour, and care in shaping this production from first rehearsal to final performance.

We are so proud of what Quiz became, and so thankful to everyone who helped make it happen, on stage, off stage, and in the audience.
