« Where I Begin Again » (160x100cm, mixed media on linen canvas, with aluminium frame).

Creating this work has been transformative. It’s an exploration of grief, healing, and transformation forever inspired by the constant movement of sea. Through layered textures, fluid forms, and the constant shifting of light and shadow, it captures the emotional rhythm of release, the quiet, often unseen process of letting go. It is about the tides of sorrow and the gentle strength it takes to slowly rise again between loss and renewal. Creating a safe passage filled with hope, to a place where I can begin again.

A beautiful and special commission I wanted to share 🤍 Rosie () who’s based in NCL, has followed my journey since 2021 and has been such a wonderful support throughout. She’s always wanted to own one of my original paintings, but the timing was never quite right. Then I moved away, life got busy, and we lost touch for a while.

Turns out, our shared love of the North Sea connects us all, across time, distance, and change.

And so last year, out of the blue, Rosie reached out to say that her family was planning to gift her one of my paintings as a wedding present. It was such a special moment and honestly, really emotional for me given everything I was going through at the time. It felt like a full circle moment.

I was both excited and nervous (imposteur syndrome hello), it felt like such an honour. Out of all the commissions I’ve done, this was one of the most meaningful. While they gave me a few reference points, they ultimately gave me complete freedom to do my thing which, as any artist knows, is the best kind of commission.

I loved the process, and I genuinely loved the final result. I wanted to share this piece and the story behind it because it means so much to me. Thank you, Rosie, for trusting me with something so personal and special. 💙

Little mussel shells become fragments of the ocean: each one like a tiny ear, listening to the hush of the tide, whispering salty secrets, asking you to listen and protect 🌊

Perfect opportunity to say that « Ocean » the new documentary with David Attenborough is available for streaming today so gather friends and family, and watch it together. 💙

It feels good to be working on a big canvas again. Big feelings deserve a big canvas, right? I’m feeling a bit unsure about it, there’s slightly too much white for my taste but I’ll wait to see how it all comes together in the end. For now, that doesn’t really matter. The process means so much more to me. I’m having fun, I’m enjoying it deeply. It brings me peace and a sense of fulfilment.

As you can see, home has become my studio again for the foreseeable future. Turns out, I absolutely love it. I’d missed this feeling actually. I usually don’t keep any of my paintings at home, especially not hanging on the walls. It’s often too dark here (no joke, literally), but I like the atmosphere it creates at home when I’m working on them. Brings a bit of magic ✨

And the final piece of this new collection: “ALIVE” 🤍
This one comes from the “before”. I finished it just a few days before my life changed forever. It holds a special place in my heart - where a part of me no longer exists, and another one has slowly come to life.

For the first time, I find myself unable to talk about my work. Or should I say, I have nothing to say about it. I look at them and feel nothing. Is it too early maybe? Or perhaps there is simply nothing to say? Creating these paintings was a distraction I needed at the time. They helped me find my bearings in the fog and the emptiness, lost in the silence between the before and the after. numb. frozen in time. paralysed. disconnected from my own life, my own self and my own feelings. I painted without thinking, without feeling, without caring. I painted on auto-pilot. My physical self was there but my mind was somewhere else. I did what I always do, because that’s what I knew. It was familiar and it felt good. So maybe that emptiness is all there is behind this body of work. To me, this new collection looks nice on the outside and is empty on the inside. I guess, they just reflect my own state at the time. I was smiling on the outside and feeling empty on the inside.

And just like that (after two hours trying to write this post), I found the words. And they clearly will make you want to buy my paintings right away 🙊

Thanks for the love and support as usual. I’m better, processing still, learning, and growing around my grief or at least trying to.
