🎷 Meet Lottie - our woodwind teacher!

If you've got a child who is always making noises with a recorder, whistling, fascinated by saxophones, or has maybe never even thought about learning a woodwind instrument… we'd love to introduce you to Lottie.

Lottie is a fantastic woodwind player and teacher who brings loads of experience across different instruments and styles.

She started on clarinet at seven, later picked up saxophone and then flute for musical theatre pit bands - so she knows first-hand that learning an instrument doesn't have to mean sticking to one musical world.

And that's one of the things we love about woodwind.

You can play in bands, orchestras, jazz groups, musical theatre, pop music… or just enjoy playing for yourself.

Our Open Day is Saturday 19 September, 2–6pm.

We'll have performances, activities, free trial lessons and the chance to meet some of our teachers.

🎶 Come and have a nosey. You don't have to know exactly what you want to learn before you walk through the door!

How was your summer?!

The Fan household headed to Sweden with some of our lovely friends. We had an amazing time, Sweden comes highly recommended. But it was all over in a flash and now the kids are all back at school and it's back to the routine (which I love!).

We have 3 new teachers starting next week:

Lilian teaches Piano and Violin on Friday.

Tom teaches Guitar and Drums on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Adam teaches Drums and Singing on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Day two was all about turning sounds into music! 🎤

We explored the basics of beatboxing, using familiar drum rhythms as inspiration before taking things further with looping and layering in recording software. The group experimented with harmonies, effects and different vocal sounds to build up their tracks.

We then switched things up in the afternoon with improvisation challenges and a competitive body percussion battle! 🥁 The big challenge was to work together and create a completely original performance using just voices, vocal effects and body percussion.

And finally, the team gave themselves an identity by creating their very own name and logo! 🎨
