Sir David Jason recently shared his thoughts on the state of modern TV, saying there's 'too much swearing and vulgar language' on today’s screens. The legendary actor, best known as Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses, spoke on the Plot Twist podcast about how times have changed since his iconic series aired. He reminisced about how writer John Sullivan crafted clever insults like 'plonker,' 'wally,' and 'dipstick' to bypass the BBC’s strict decency rules.

David found an old BBC rulebook from 1947, which outlined restrictions for writers and actors to avoid offending viewers. 'If they were around today,' he mused, noting that these rules have largely disappeared. He argued that today’s shows rely heavily on expletives, particularly when portraying working-class characters, and he feels that this has filtered into everyday speech, eroding manners and respect.

David also turned down a spot on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, humorously blaming his 'two left feet.' Reflecting on his late friend Ronnie Barker, he shared that Barker’s success was built on respect and generosity toward his entire team, qualities he feels are sometimes lacking in today’s showbiz.
