Diggle Blues Festival

Diggle Blues Festival Diggle Blues Festival is a FREE music festival held every year in the village of Diggle, Greater Manchester.

The festival will run for three days from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st June 2026.

On Sunday afternoon of Diggle Blues 26 we had the BLIND PIG GANG at Wizards Hollow. The members of the band are all from different bands from around Sowerby Bridge where they get together for a jam session weekly at the Blind Pig pub. When booking the band, I was aware that we wouldn't know the final make up of the band, it was to be from a core of musician who would be available on the date. This is a bit like the Railway, Greenfield where every Thursday, there is a jam session and you never know who will turn up but you know there will be a mix of quality musicians, if you've not tried it then we can recommend it - give it a go.

Successful funding for Diggle Blues Festival 2026
Well, after another successful Diggle Blues Festival with lots of positive comments from our audience, we have looked to our finances and found that we are again in slightly positive territory. We aim to break even with any surplus available to pass on to charities. The committee, all unpaid, ( we do get a free tee shirt but I suppose it’s our uniform really), would like to thank all contributors to fund the Festival and make it viable to continue and remain an asset to the community. Support has come from sponsors, venues, programme advertisers and our fabulous audience supporting us by buying tee shirts, programmes, Adopt a Gig and Wellwishers supporters and general donations. Many of these supporters have been with us for many years, some even from our first Festival. There are too many individual contributors to name but we must acknowledge Tony Pickup and Sheila Dunne for their absolutely substantial donation. Tony told me that they and their close family saved all their change for several months to donate a huge sum to our funds. Thanks Tony, Sheila and family and thanks again to all Diggle Blues fans and supporters. So, that being said, it means we’ll see you all again next year - planning has already started.

Check out the band we had this year on at Wizards Hollow in the afternoon. Great Manchester band playing many festivals throughout the country, we've got a band led by a lady with a powerhouse voice, KATIE AND THE BAD SIGN.

We usually have some acts from the North East, they have a great blues scene up there. I've already featured Teresa Watson Band from there and here's a second North East band for 2026, the finely attired Doctor Brown and the Groove Cats who played Kilngreen on the Satutday.

Time for another look back to this year when local group (one of the members lives in Dobcross) Devil Hound Blues opened up the Festival on the Friday night at Wizards Hollow. A great start to the weekend.

We had a brilliant set on Saturday night at Wizards Hollow care of DOGSHARK. They had a great mix from heavy blues like this number, some original tracks and then some real lively covers(Ozzy, Led Zep) in the second half. Top musicians with guitarist, Andy, showing us how it's done.

Let's have another snippet while we're still hot from the Festival. This is John Montana and his trio with their version of a James Brown classic. We knew John was going to be good, we even put his photo on the front of the programme and the flyer in anticipation and yes he was a standout amongst the many great performances. Although John is now based in Oldham area, he claims his band is an international affair since he was originally from Romania, his bass player was from the US and drummer from far flung Stockport.

End of another Festival. The audience loved it, the bands loved it and best of all, us organisers loved it. What's not to like? All the acts were great and we give you a sample here from the Teresa Watson Band featuring this top blues lady from the North East. It was third time lucky for Teresa, she was booked for the cancelled festival in Covid times, then she had to cancel a few years back when one of her band members became ill, so eventually we were able to catch up with her for this years Festival.
I'll be putting videos of all the acts over the next few weeks to remind you of what you saw this year.
Thanks again to our audience. All the bands love to play Diggle because they get such a great reaction from the audience. It makes the bands raise their game. Looking forward to next year already, see you then,

What a great start to Diggle Blues 2026. We had local band Devil Hound Blues at Wizards Hollow then we had a masterclass in guitar playing at the Band Club with Canadian guitarist Gary Cain and his band shown in the video. Another great day to look forward to today, starting at 1.30pm at Wizards Hollow with Katie and the Bad Sign. See you there!
