Did you know Arnold in Nottingham has actually had three theatres over the years?

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Arnoldโ€™s first theatre was the St Albans Picturedrome, which opened in 1912.

๐Ÿฟ It was followed by a larger cinema and theatre in 1929.

๐ŸŽญ The Bonington Theatre opened inside Arnold Leisure Centre in 1982. Named after Arnold-born artist Richard Parkes Bonington, it continues Arnoldโ€™s long tradition of entertainment.

It seats 178 people, has a licensed bar, free evening parking, and even offers Tuesday films for just ยฃ5! ๐ŸŽฅ

There are some brilliant shows coming up too, including:

โœจ Hocus Pocus โ€“ an interactive family show where children can meet the actors.

๐ŸŽธ Rebel Rebel โ€“ a tribute to David Bowie.

๐ŸŒˆ Visions of Floyd by Equinox.

Have you ever been to the Bonington Theatre?

In light of the recent passing of David Hockney (1937-2026), Exhibition on Screen have made 2017โ€™s David Hockney at the Royal Academy of Arts available to watch.

From Exhibition On Screen company founder Phil Grabsky:

โ€œSad news of the death of a great artist โ€“ David Hockney. I think the term โ€˜greatโ€™ gets thrown about a bit liberally these days but Hockney, for me, is deserving of the plaudit. One of his paintings (a copy) was on the wall of my school so he has been a presence all of my life. I am delighted we got to make a film about and with him. A life lived to the full in art.โ€

*These screenings will take place in Arnold Libraryโ€™s Meeting Room 1.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Big news! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

The wonderful Nerina Pallot will be joining us in October as part of her Solo Tour - Fire Escape Symphonies

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday (17 June) from 10am!

Last year - as many of you know - I undertook my most extensive solo tour of Great Britain and Ireland. At times it felt never-ending - those times tended to coincide with whenever I was negotiating the junction of the M42 and M6 - but mostly it was life-affirming and joyous. I felt like I had purpose.

That tour was meant to be a path to what many of us consider the greatest venue in the land - The Royal Albert Hall - and I can now confirm, it is indeed the greatest venue in the land. However, during the course of the tour, I realised it was not a mere means to an end. No show was more important than the other. Every audience brought their own energy; their own stories - and every audience changed me, over and over, night after night.

It has been so weird not playing a show for almost six months, and as a result, when I got back on stage in Hay-on-Wye and then London last month, I realised I had not been myself at all. I hadnโ€™t been well, thatโ€™s true, but that was compounded by getting into a rhythm of regular shows and then stopping it dead for half a year.

I sing, therefore I am.

So. I know I should be making another album, but I havenโ€™t written enough good new songs to feel excited about getting back in the studio for the long haul. Right now, I just want to sing and play, thatโ€™s all I want to do and as Iโ€™ve been moping about insufferably since May 31st without a gig to go to, my long suffering agent Steve - the man, the myth, the legend - has duly obliged.

Listen. I can do fancy pants, and I plan on doing fancy pants again, donโ€™t you worry. But I need to get back out to where I feel like I belong and thatโ€™s with you.

See you in the autumn.
