I’m currently developing a short psychological horror film titled Mr. Drumble, which I have co-written and will be directing, with Nottingham-based cinematographer Matt Sharratt as Director of Photography.
We are currently looking for an experienced actor to play the lead role of Isaiah Drumble, and I was told that NANDA’s network of local theatre companies and performers could be a great place to find him.
About the film
Mr. Drumble is a psychological horror / dark satire, approximately 12–15 minutes long.
Isaiah Drumble is a powerful British defence-industry magnate who arrives for what appears to be a routine interview. As the questions become increasingly specific, he begins to realise that neither the interviewer — nor the room — is quite what he thought.
The film is dialogue-driven and deliberately restrained: polite, controlled and increasingly uncomfortable, rather than conventional or graphic horror.
The role – Isaiah Drumble
We are looking for a male actor, approximately 58–70, ideally with substantial theatre or dramatic experience.
Drumble is charismatic, intelligent, authoritative and physically commanding — a man accustomed to being the most powerful person in the room.
It is a substantial, dialogue-heavy lead role requiring an actor who can carry the film through presence, charisma, humour and intelligence. Drumble begins the story completely in control — confident, charming and occasionally intimidating — before that control is gradually stripped away as the interview progresses.
We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced theatre performers who might enjoy taking on a strong screen role.
Production
We are currently in pre-production and building the project around finding the right lead actor and location. The film will be shot in the Nottingham / Nottinghamshire area.
This is an independently produced short film. Compensation and expenses will be discussed with shortlisted performers once the production schedule and budget are confirmed.
I’ve attached the short presentation we recently used to introduce the project at Reel People, which includes the concept, visual references and the type of performer we have in mind.
If appropriate, I would be very grateful if you could share this casting call with your member companies and actors.
I’d be very happy to hear directly from anyone interested in the role, or from directors and company members who immediately have a performer in mind. At this stage, an introduction, headshot/showreel or simply an expression of interest would be absolutely fine.
