ABOMINATE: I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AND I AM COMING FOR YOU No picture, audio, or video, just text beside a blank avatar. Anonymous. Obviously, thought Polly; the tough, manly men will call you every name their dirty little minds could conceive, threaten unspeakable violence, but never felt brave enough to show their faces. The message itself was tame compared to the expletive-ridden death-threats that regularly invaded her life, but the simplicity conveyed by those words crawled beneath her skin....

“Can you describe the experience?” the voice scratched out from the intercom. Morgan sighed and hovered her finger over the intercom button. “Please be aware,” the voice continued, “that the following words or phrases are generally not productive and are not recorded.” Morgan looked up as the screen above her rattled off pretty much every profanity she could think of....

Number 26 Melville Road was hunting, brick dust grinding on the tarmac as its thorn limbs dragged it along in search of prey. People stayed off the streets, but in truth there weren’t many places for them to hide anymore. Any vacant house could be a slumbering predator and not many wanted to walk willingly into a monster’s mouth. The man was crawling along behind a low concrete barrier, keeping the obstacle between himself and Number 26....

Here's a quick update about the site. I know the posts have been sporadic and I don't think that is ever going to change (I write when I get an idea and you know they are tricksy little pixies when you try to get them to any kind of schedule). I'm currently working on a 3,000 word essay discussing the importance of fantastical literature so I'm feeling like I'm arguing my existence.

I wait. I am hungry. So hungry. But I can wait. Patient as stone and old as earth. Waiting for you. To get impatient. To not want to catch that bus. To bask in the confidence of drink and drug. To decide you could do with the exercise. To stretch your legs. To take a short cut. To take that walk....

1. The couple across the street are arguing again. I can’t understand why either hasn’t lost their voice yet, the screams constantly overlap each other until they sound like someone scrolling past radio channels – all distortion and fragments. I’d much rather listen to cats screeching at each other. I wish there were any cats still alive… I don’t think even…...

April 24th, 1915 Ypres, Belgium It’s only when they cry out that I know they see me. I can see them; four ghosts in the tattered corpses of uniforms, stumbling through crumbled concrete. They lurch among the skeletal remains of the church like the dead; as though God decided they hadn’t yet suffered enough and kicked them out of the grave back into the war....

Sorry it's been a while. For some reason doing a degree in creative writing has meant I've been doing less writing.

I step back from the window in the darkened bedroom, my pulse throbbing behind my ears. Did I really see that? Did I really see her? Did she see me? What was it that made me freak out so much? Aside from the fright, I feel as guilty as a schoolboy caught spying on the girl’s changing rooms. I had happened to glance at the house opposite and there was a woman in the first-floor window looking at my house. [ 659 more words ]
