We are excited to announce the WINNERs of QUEERDOs first Creative Mentoring Pilot Project: Hannah Balogun, Keira Dormer-Hazell ( .dh ), and Doug Deans! 🤩

Thank you to everyone who entered the lottery draw and for getting involved with QUEERDOs across 2025! 🥰

Our winners will receive three bespoke Creative Mentoring sessions with a mentor of their choice. Here at Mind Out, we will broker that relationship. The aim of this pilot project is to break down access barriers that often leave q***r, neurodivergent and disabled creatives falling through scheme and programme cracks!

Image description: “QUEERDOs – Creative Mentoring Pilot Project: Winners selected!” on a pink and white swirling background. Three portrait photos are shown side by side with name labels. From left to right: Hannah Balogun, a Black woman with long braids wearing layered necklaces and a sleeveless top; Keira Dormer-Hazell, a white person with dark hair tied back, wearing glasses, a black top, and jeans, photographed mid-gesture indoors; and Doug Deans, a white man with short light hair and glasses, smiling while wearing a jacket and T-shirt. Logos appear at the bottom for Community Fund, Mind Out Theatre, and Notts LGBT+ Network.

A colorful poster with a pink spiral background promoting the “QUEERDOs” community network. Large text at the top reads “QUEERDOs – Have your say!” Below, a yellow text box says: “If you are Q***r, Neurodivergent and/or Disabled we would love to hear from you! What do you want from a creative community network like QUEERDOs?” Two photos show a person wearing colorful clothes speaking while seated at a table, and a small plush toy beside craft materials. Logos for the Community Fund and Mind Out Theatre appear at the bottom.

A huge thank you to everyone who made the last two weeks so special! Broadway Cinema hosted us over the last two weeks to explore a number of new Mind Out projects! 🤩

Some highlights:

- Meeting our new Focus Group of young people who are shaping the story that they would like to tell, Second Nature - a new digital experience about climate change and grief.

- Working with Paula Varjack - the ultimate mentor, providing dramaturgy support and producer advice!

- Collaborating with Octavia Nyombi on the early development of an interactive show that follows Hedgehog & Butterfly, in this neurodivergent and q***r centred family show (work-in-progress performance coming up at Lincoln Arts Centre - more info soon)

- Meeting 5 shortlisted writers for Second Nature - bowled over by all the applicants' skill and generosity - the young people's Focus Group now have a tricky decision in store.

Thank you, Lukas Farrow for this gorgeous video of our Second Nature Focus Group!

Date: Wednesday 8th January 2025

Time: 7 pm to 8 pm

Session Overview:

The sessions are split into two sections: Creative & Community
We start with check-in, brief intros, and some grounding and breathing exercises, followed by some games and conversation!
We will open the space for anyone to share something that is on their mind as a Q***r, Neurodivergent or Disabled person. Please be mindful of providing trigger warnings and be aware that this is not a therapeutic space but rather, a chance to share an experience with like-minded people to feel SEEN and less ALONE.

Mostly the space is light and fun, but we want to hold space for the variety of our lived experiences.

These sessions are free and currently unfunded so donations are welcome: https://www.mindouttheatre.com/support-us

These sessions are an extension of the Arts Council funded project that enabled Bulwell (Nottingham) based Q***r, Disabled and Neurodivergent adults to come together through co-creation creative sessions.

Hello all from Mind Out Theatre!

We would love to invite you to a 60-minute open sharing and audience feedback session of scenes, songs and designs from our current project, "Them?"- a dark comedy with songs set in a Job Centre.

We would love to hear your thoughts on our piece to help us evolve the show.

Synopsis:

From being on Universal Credit, to working for Universal Credit, new Work Coach, Mir embraces their q***r identity during the backdrop of a global pandemic. In an ever-changing world, Work Coaches and customers alike attempt to make sense of their everyday lives by categorising each other. We are all at the mercy of the system. But humans programmed the system...

Which side of the desk will you be? And could both sides work together?

A pacy and surreal story about privilege, power and solidarity.

Details of the sharing:

THURSDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER
4PM
COMPANY BAR @ NOTTINGHAM PLAYHOUSE

If you can, please email [email protected] to let us know you will be there! Walk-ins also welcome!

We hope to see you there and hear your valued thoughts and feedback. :)
