Grand Central Chorus

Grand Central Chorus A successful men's chorus, based in Chilwell, five miles west of Nottingham, singing a ca****la pop favourites, songs from musicals and barbershop classics.

The Grand Central Chorus is a friendly group of about 40 men who enjoy singing together in the four-part close-harmony a ca****la (unaccompanied) style. We sing traditional barbershop, pop classics and songs from musicals. The term “chorus” is the American term for choir and reflects our performance style which encourages movement and expression to reflect the song's lyrics. Our main reason for si

nging is entertainment, both for our audiences and ourselves, but we also take part in competitions from time to time. Over the years the chorus has enjoyed considerable success, for example, winning the gold medal on five occasions at the UK National Barbershop Convention – winning our latest one at Southport in May 2012. In fact, the chorus has never been out of the top few positions in all the years it has been eligible to compete in this competition. Consequently the chorus has travelled to North America on several occasions to represent the UK at the International Convention. If you are interested in joining us please come and take a look. Not surprisingly you need to be able to sing in tune and after a few weeks of rehearsals, and a very friendly and informal audition, you will know if we are the right sort of singing group for you to join. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7.00 pm, at

DEFINITELY CONSISTENT!

For the second year running, Grand Central finished 6th in the BABS male chorus competition, with a score almost identical to last year. A tiny bit disappointing not to edge past last year’s mark, but we were genuinely happy with our performance and had a brilliant weekend in Harrogate.

It also means Grand Central maintains its record of never finishing lower than 6th, which says a lot about our consistency and standards over many years.

This year’s chorus included six former Lionheart singers, who worked very hard to qualify. One described it as “the experience of a lifetime”, which was great to hear.

It also gave us our biggest chorus on stage since before COVID and made us one of the largest choruses competing this year. Numbers aren’t everything, but it’s encouraging to see the chorus growing significantly

Most importantly, everyone gave their all, supported each other brilliantly, and had a fantastic weekend together. Here's the link to our performance:

Last night, Simon Tye received his BABS membership certificate from Darren (Membership Secretary). Simon has joined the basses and is one of seven singers to have joined the chorus since the new year. Congratulations to all of them. We really appreciate the effort they have made to learn the repertoire and the contribution they are making to the chorus.
