Hello improv people,
This is Thomas, the 2021-22 president writing a little (big) message to the oldies and the new arrivals!
I’m sure that there might be some interest in the uni improv group again now that A Level results and UCAS decisions have been received. Well done to everyone who is coming to UoN for first year, it’s a lovely university in many ways. Don’t worry if things don’t go as you initially plan them, there are so many societies to try and people to meet. Just throw yourself in and take the opportunity to find who and what you like by trial and error. All the best wishes for settling in!
Currently, there is no improv society committee in place for 2022-23 (yet). The improv group was quite large before COVID, but the pandemic interrupted the group. I revived the society in Sept with help from old and new members and the SU team, and we had a lot of fun last year, with smaller numbers, but as most of us were in the older years, we have mostly left! Well done and thank you to everyone who got involved with the society, it was so much fun.
Nevertheless, if there is the interest this coming year, it is possible to get the society up and running once more with the help of the Students Union team. It’s a bit of an effort, take it from me, but definitely possible. The society also has access to some funds that have built up over its many years of existence that could be put to good improv-related use if there is a group of people willing to invest the time and energy into the society’s development.
In the meantime, anyone wanting to try improv theatre, there is always the city group MissImp: Improv Comedy Nottingham, which is a great community of Nottingham residents who do improv, at all levels of experience. Some of the people from the community came along to teach us some improv skills and run some sessions last year and were invaluable.
Maybe some of the remaining improv gang could organise taking a group of interested people to the city!
If there are any questions, send them over either to the messages or under this status, I might be able to help.
All the best,
Thomas Gregory
