On and beyond, let's all fully .

Today, we're celebrating the achievements of the women who inspire us daily at DCP Drums as we continue to strive for a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination, both in and out of music.

It is crucial that equal opportunities are provided to women in the music industry.

UK Music’s Diversity Taskforce have developed the Five Ps, an action plan designed to accelerate positive change.

Dru Michael's prolific drumming plays a pivotal part in Sam Fender's meteoric rise. Dru played drums on both of Sam's #1 albums and has performed on some of the biggest stages around the world 🥁🌎

We caught up for !

Dru has been a part of Sam Fender's band since 2017, they met during childhood and forged friendships years before they started playing in Sam's band.

"Playing music with others is the best conversation you will ever have without needing to talk."

Playing music is such a great way of directing energy into a positive and healthy place.

"The most important thing for drummers is to have fun - it's a great outlet to express how you feel"

Thanks Drew Michael Music for getting involved with Place2Be Children's Mental Health Week!

This week has been , with the theme “Let’s Connect”.

At DCP Drums, we are such strong believers that music is a tool that enables us to connect and build meaningful relationships!

We've been in touch with some top musicians and drummers, and such a great response with some amazing insight about the power of connecting through music, and why it is so important not to overlook musical creativity in education. The benefits that drumming can have on children's, and everyone's mental health are unbound. 🧠🥁

"Anything that allows kids to just create unblemished or unrestrictive is far more human and childlike in essence - lack of fear, judgement, pure imagination."

To mark , we've been catching up with some of our favourite musicians to find out about the role that music plays regarding their mental health.

Richard Spaven took some time off playing drums on Loyle Carner's European tour to talk to us about how music is used to create meaningful relationships!

As a drummer & producer, collaboration is a fundamental part of Richard's career.

“Playing the drums created life situations that otherwise would’ve have been possible. Collaboration is part of that, and has always been a great way to form mutual, meaningful relationships”

“There’s trust involved in collaboration, too. Sharing ideas with someone you don’t know can be exposing and challenging. Trust is required from all involved. When this is established, a strong bond is formed.”

Being creative can increase positive emotions, reduce depressive symptoms and anxiety. Playing music in groups keeps this fresh for Richard.

“My closest friends are musicians. Exercising my creative mind helps to keep things in proportion and offers unique perspectives.”

Music is pivotal for Richard’s mental health. He knows just how essential playing music can be for children’s mental health, too.

“Arts and music are extremely important for children. The benefits are unbound! They provide opportunities for character building and to be expressive at a formative part of their lives.”

Thanks so much Richard for taking the time out to talk to us! It’s so great to hear about the meaningful and healthy relationships derived from musical collaboration.

"Drummers always talk about good they feel when they play drums & how ‘in the moment’ they have to be when playing - especially with other musicians. It is impossible to think about any troubles you may have!" - Dan McKay, DCP Drums Tutor

Dan started playing in his Dad's blues band aged 12, so knows all about the importance of persevering with practice, and the feeling of accomplishment when you finally "get it".

"Achieving your first beat or a complicated fill and then realising that it actually sounds good is such a special feeling. It's great seeing children's faces when they have their 'got it' moment after they've persevered".

At DCP Drums, we are firm believers that drumming can be massive for your mental health, both on and off the drum kit.

"Drumming can bring children out of their shell. You get such a feeling of confidence you're hitting a drum hard - and even better feeling when it's in time!"

Next week, Dan & the rest of the DCP Drums team are supporting Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week.

We're Hiring!

We’re looking for an enthusiastic self-starter to join our company and to share our passion of music with the children you teach. You will deliver lessons to children in groups of all sizes and will be responsible for their progression throughout the academic year. Some experience working with groups of children is desirable, as is a passion for the drums. We would love to hear from candidates who have both.

Over the past 2 weeks we've been running The Million Hits Challenge for BBC Children in Need, inspired by Owain Wyn Evans 24 Hour Drumathon!

We have been going into Primary Schools all across the East Midlands and giving children the chance to get as many drum hits as they can in one minute, with the goal of everyone pulling together to get us to 1,000,000 total hits. The effort by all the children so far has been absolutely amazing and it's been great to see how much enjoyment they've had from taking part! With just one day to go, we're so close to hitting our target...

Welcome to The Million Hits Challenge in aid of BBC Children in Need!

In support of Owain Wyn Evans mammoth 24 Hour Drumathon, we have decided to run our own drumming related fundraiser - ‘The Million Hits Challenge’, raising money for Children in Need by doing what we do best… drum!

Throughout this month we're giving all our students in the East Midlands one minute on our special hit-counting pads to get as many hits as they can. Let's all pull together to get one million hits and raise lots of money!

Please share and get in touch with us if you want to be involved!
