A New Chapter for Stu & Bex — Help Us Build Something Special
Hi everyone,
My name is Stu. I'm a former serviceman, currently working as a maintenance engineer, and my wife Becky is a teaching assistant. We're reaching out because we're ready to take the biggest step of our lives — and we'd love your support to help make it happen.
Becky has been dealing with some health challenges, and after a lot of thought and conversation, we've made a decision: it's time for a complete lifestyle change. One that's kinder to Becky, more fulfilling for both of us, and rooted in something we genuinely believe in — community.
The Dream
We want to own and run our own pub and campsite — and if we can pull it off fully, a café and rooms to let too. Four businesses under one roof, built around one simple idea: bringing people together.
Anyone who's served will know exactly what we mean when we talk about the kind of community you find in the forces. That sense of belonging, of looking out for each other, of having a place that feels like yours. That's what we want to create — somewhere in the Derbyshire area, within about an hour of our home in Mansfield.
This isn't a whim. Since leaving the forces, I've talked about this kind of venture consistently. At 43, I feel ready — ready to pour the next chapter of my life into something I can shape, grow, and be proud of. Something that gives back.
Running our own place also means Becky can take on a role that works for her — a little less pressure, a little more joy — while I take on more of the heavy lifting. It's a setup that makes sense for both of us.
Where We Are Right Now
We're in the early stages — researching, planning, and working out the path ahead. We have equity in our home, but we're not quite where we need to be financially to make this dream a reality on our own. That's why we're reaching out.
Any contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer.
We're committed to full transparency throughout this journey. We'll be documenting everything — the highs, the challenges, and all the steps in between — and sharing it on YouTube and other platforms so you can follow along as this unfolds over the coming months and years.
