Beau Townshend SFX Freelance Special Effects Artist : Animatronics, Props, Prosthetics, Model Making, Creature Creation and Set design Beau

Hailing from Norwich, Beau has had a life long passion for Special effects ever since his introduction to movie magic when his eldest brother had accidentally left a vhs copy of "The Thing" in the family tape player for Beau to find, after having seen enough to be given nightmares for a lifetime, his brother who had a keen interest in SFX at the time was left no choice but to explain how movie mon

ster were created, and thus the spark was ignited.

Operating as a free-lance SFX artist, Beau holds a BA Hons in the degree of Special Effects for Film and TV; majoring in animatronics, from Southampton Solent University. He has worked on such films as Christopher Reith's "Chain" and Darren Wards "Beyond Fury" (currently in production), as well creating various animatronic installations for music festivals across the UK such as "Boomtown Fair", "Symmetry Festival" and "No man's land festival" to name a few. "I spent my early teens building and painting various models and miniatures that won awards at national competitions, which lead to me eventually sculpting my own. Through studying Art and Design at college I developed my skills in sculpture and painting and achieved distinctions for each course I attended, earning the "Principles Award. As I progressed through university I gained a vast a knowledge and experience of industry standard materials and techniques, and became skilled in a variety of areas such as; character design, animatronic design and fabrication, prosthetic make-up, control and signal writing, mold-making and much more. For my final major project I created a life-size animatronic Sumatran elephant head that exhibited realistic movement from the eyes, ears, jaw, lip, neck and trunk. The elephant was operated both manually via foot pedals and cable-mechanism's as well as via servo's controlled using an arduino board which I coded to allow the user to animate the eyes, eyelids and lip via an Xbox 360 controller."
