It's never been a better time to do your own recording at home. Unfortunately, you could say. But making the most of this situation we find ourselves in is a good option and writing and recording at home is not too difficult even for those who don't have a very 'techy' inclination.
If you want to try this but don't know where to start then there is plenty of good information out there. A fair amount of less good stuff too!
Ignore anyone who is suggesting spending a lot of money. There really is no need to do that. For most people you only need a computer, an audio interface, a microphone, and some speakers. You may already have two of those and while home stereo speakers are not ideal they can definitely get you started and even headphones will do at a pinch.
The thing that most people (in my experience) fall down on is mixing. This is something that really does require experience to get a good result, as well as better speakers and a treated room!
So the answer, I think, is to get an experienced studio engineer to mix it for you (yes you've reached the shameless plug part of my post!). At £16 per hour, my services are very good value and I can often mix a typical pop or rock track in about 4 to 6 hours, depending on its complexity of course. I can often give a quote if you prefer, and I offer a 'no charge if your not satisfied' guarantee.
I have nearly 20 years of experience recording and mixing so your in safe hands (and ears).
I can also help with recommendations for recording gear and advice on getting set up and started with your own recordings of you should need it.
Please get in touch if any of this appeals to you.
Thanks.
