**** NORWICH MONDAY BIG BAND TONIGHT

The Big Band first began rehearsing in the back room during the mid 70's and has since been run by senior member and trombonist Dave Buchan who has kept it going for the past 26 years.
Musicians travel from around Norwich, Norfolk and Suffolk to meet in the city, much as they would have done over 40 years earlier. And they continue to play many of the original classic big band material created by the great arrangers form the 50's onward. These include :- Sammy Nestico, Lennie Niehaus, Bill Holman, Neil Hefti, as performed by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones and more.
Chris Simmons who runs the Cityjazz sessions at The White Horse every 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month also plays trumpet with the Monday big band. He approached The White Horse management with a view to reviving the original band connection. So, although strictly a rehearsal band the introduction of younger players with a readiness to want to perform live have given a new impetus which had led to this change in direction.
