🌿 What a lovely way to begin our Like a Tree anniversary library tour!

Today we tucked our little pram theatre into the beautiful courtyard garden at Stowmarket Library — surrounded by plants, trees, buzzing insects and curious little faces. 🌳🐝

There was something rather perfect about sharing Like a Tree — a story about growing, friendship and our relationship with the natural world — in a library garden so full of life.

Libraries are such special places. Places to discover stories, of course, but also to gather, play, learn, encounter something unexpected and spend time together. We’re so happy to be bringing live theatre into these wonderful community spaces as part of our 10th anniversary tour. 💚

Thank you to everyone who joined us today, and to the lovely team at Stowmarket Library for making us so welcome.

And a special thank you to the family who shared this gorgeous photo with us — we love seeing the show through your eyes. 💚

Next stop… Haverhill Library, Sunday 20 September! 🌱

🌳 LIKE A TREE IS 10! 🌳

This year marks a rather special milestone — our little vintage pram puppet theatre show, Like a Tree, has been touring for ten whole years!

And today we begin a very special anniversary tour of libraries across Suffolk — with our first performance at Stowmarket Library today! 🌱

We’re delighted to have received funding from Suffolk County Council Culture Project Fund with partnership support from Suffolk Community Libraries to take the show on the road — with every performance completely FREE.

Making theatre accessible and creating opportunities for everyone to experience it, regardless of circumstance, has always been an important part of our ethos. It feels especially fitting to celebrate ten years by sharing Like a Tree freely with communities across Suffolk. 💚

🌱 Like a Tree tells the story of a child and a young tree growing together, exploring friendship and the delicate balance between people and the natural world — all performed from a vintage pram puppet theatre.

📚 TOUR DATES
12 Sept — Stowmarket Library
20 Sept — Haverhill Library
26 Sept — Newmarket Library
3 Oct — Beccles Library
4 Oct — Bury St Edmunds Library

Most performances are already SOLD OUT! Some venues are adding extra availability, though, so do have a peek — you might still be able to join us beneath the branches. 🌿

🎟️ Free, but booking required — link in bio.

LAST POST FROM HULL 💌

Back home, postbags unpacked, and reflecting on what a truly special weekend we’ve had in Hull.

A huge thank you to Freedom Festival Arts Trust for inviting Dream Deliveries to be part of the festival — and for helping us expand the Dream Service!

This weekend our ranks grew, with three brilliant Hull artists joining us as apprentice posties… although after two days out on Peace Mail duties, we reckon a promotion is already in order. Rachel Clark Jade plus our old hands Lou Ashton Owen

Together we took beautiful letters of peace out onto the streets — connecting strangers, carrying words between people who may never meet, and creating little moments of kindness, hope and surprise along the way.

There’s something quietly powerful about putting a message of peace into the hands of someone you don’t know. And even more so about artists and communities from different cities coming together to make that happen.

Thank you to everyone who wrote, delivered, received, stopped for a chat, shared a smile or helped the Dream Service on its rounds. Hull, you were a joy. Nothing can overshadow something beautiful when a city chooses love. ❤️

And for those who didn’t get a hand-delivered letter… stay tuned. A little selection from the Peace Mail postbag will be arriving here soon. 💌

Until the next round…

Peace, love & positive post. ☮️

Meet my tech support for the day… 👋

This is my daughter, Martha. ❤️

When my iPad/GoButton/Audio Ape combo decided to completely abandon me this week, Martha calmly stepped in and offered to cue the show for me.

No fuss. No panic. Just, “Yep, I’ve got it.”

She’s an absolute legend, and I’m so, so grateful to have her by my side as we take Hocus Pocus Theatre’s Clown About Town to Out the Ordinary Festival. 🎪✨

So proud of my girl. ❤️

A little rehearsal for Clown About Town, which I’m performing this Saturday.

I haven’t done this show for a while, and I’m feeling pretty anxious about it for lots of reasons. I made it about eight years ago and, at 47, I sometimes wonder if I’m too old for this now. My body has changed, I’ve changed, and some days even finding the motivation to start feels hard.

So today I picked up my uke.

It’s a bit cringe putting rehearsal out there when it’s not polished, but I’m trying to remind myself that sometimes you don’t have to feel ready before you begin. You just have to start.

And maybe that’s why I like this song. When You’re Smiling is a simple reminder that sometimes the smallest thing can shift something.

So… one song, one rehearsal, one step at a time.

Anyway… Wish me a broken leg. I’ll try not to take it literally! 🤡🌻🎪
