This is now on my easel, almost, once I've relined the whole canvas in a sturdier frame. Then comes the cleaning, the 3rd image showing test area, it's going to look mint by the time I've finished! !NB the slight problem of a bloody great hole in it! Mmmmmmm….

A fascinating job, a piece of rare early Chinese Coromandel work cabinet had been found rotting in an attic... my job, to see if I could save it! It was a challenge to say the least and took me right back to my early days of decoration as an apprentice in a restoration company in Knightsbridge. Many hours of sanding, filling, sanding, filling and hundreds or layers of lacquer! It's always an honour to bring back something so old and beautiful back to life. Hopefully good for another 200 years.

The Grandfather in his Pith Helmet out in India whilst still under colonial rule! Thankfully those days are over but I do love this picture as a reference to that era! He was though the first British Architect to employ local Indian architectural assistants and used Indian stonemasons, and one of the pioneers of Anglo Saracenic architecture, ie incorporating ancient Indian vernaculars in his designs, rather than the rather empirical contemporaries of his who kept their work and employees as English. I'm proud of him for that at least, just as my other Grandfather on my Mother's side was one of the first pioneers of organic farming working closely with the rather formidable Lady Balfour! So respect to both Grandfathers, who both saw the future before their contemporaries did!!
