Ben Paints Landscapes Original landscape paintings by Ben Kendall

A few more North Norfolk sketches. I don’t often sketch. Mostly just paint. Forgotten how much I enjoy it.

A weekend away camping near Cromer with my son is obviously just an excuse for some long overdue sketching. I quite like the simplicity of these as drawings in themselves. Which should I paint?

Old Town, acrylic on 30x30cm board.

Another painting reminiscing on a recent holiday. Stepping into the warm light of Rhodes again. This sun-drenched alley, bursting with Mediterranean charm, is part of my current series just in time for holiday season.

Olive Groves and an Aegean Sky, acrylic on 30x30cm board.

A change of landscape can be a powerful thing.

Time spent exploring the olive groves, mountains and shifting light of southern Rhodes has sparked a fresh wave of inspiration in the studio. This new painting, Olive Groves and an Aegean Sky, grew from those moments when we didn’t quite know where we were but sunlight broke through dramatic cloud transforming the land below.

Sometimes all it takes is a different horizon to see with new eyes.

Absolutely delighted (and a bit surprised) to share that I’ve been shortlisted for the VAA Art100 International: an international honour celebrating 100 exceptional contemporary artists from around the world.

Winners are featured in the prestigious VAA Art100 International Industry Book, circulated to collectors, galleries, and curators internationally, so it’s a real privilege to have ‘The Staithe’ selected, with further works now being considered for inclusion in the publication.

Grateful for all the support and encouragement from everyone who continues to follow and connect with my work.

Thank you

Low Weather, acrylic on 30x30cm board

Trying to hold onto that feeling just before the rain breaks: heavy sky, soft light, and colour disappearing into the distance.

A Tranquil Place, acrylic and mixed media on 30x30 board,

When the light shifts, so does everything else. Sunnier days seem to loosen the hand and lift the palette: cool blues stretch out, yellows find their way in, and even the quietest scenes start to glow a little.

Painting this felt like leaning into that change, letting brightness creep in without losing the calm.

All set up ready for another show, this time in Norwich. It’s on every day until April 26 so please pop in. Thank you to my little helpers for staying up late and help carry paintings. Keep scrolling for my serious artist picture and exhibition details.

What Lies Beneath, acrylic and mixed media, on 46x46cm board.

I’ve been disappointed with my painting lately. Most have been painted over and deleted from social media! But I’ve learnt that these periods are necessary before making a breakthrough and today feels like one of those.

This one is a piece about holding back, scraping through, and letting something quieter emerge. Not everything needs to shout to be felt. It also harks back to some of my early work but hopefully in a more mature way.

Sometimes the best work comes after the most doubt.
