So here’s Volume 2 of Taking It Back. This time it’s pure ’90s guitar bands β€” a reminder that working within the traditional confines of the mod-influenced power trio, or the gang mentality of guitar-slinging bands like the MC5, never meant sacrificing character, authenticity, passion or commitment.
There’s some great mod-influenced guitar pop here from Mantaray and The Hybirds, both three-pieces who took The Jam blueprint and pushed it into more psychedelic territory. Kinky Machine and Orange Deluxe bring glam-rock swagger shot through with Hendrix-style guitar flamboyance, while Spitfire channel the raw, high-energy ra**ch ’n’ roll spirit of the MC5.
These Animal Men deliver p***y mod attitude driven by the frenetic, speed-freak guitar-and-drums attack of The Who, while SMASH offer pure, impassioned, hot-blooded punk ’n’ roll β€” urgent, confrontational and utterly committed.
And scattered among them are some genuine lost gems from bands who barely registered beyond the underground at the time, including Jaguar Ho**er and My Jealous God.
Check it out. I promise there’s a gem or two in here waiting to be rediscovered.

THIS IS MUSIC- TAKING IT BACK VOL 1

Presenting volume 1 in a series of what This is Music thinks are great possibly unheard and forgotten tracks from the 80s,90s and early noughties.
Volume 1 presents a host of mid to late 90s tracks that I loved that represent UK bands who were ostensibly guitar groups (or certainly used them in a live setting like the lo Fidelity All stars) but dud that thing that the great uk bands of the 90s did ,incorporate eclectic influences into their rock n roll . Its certainly an indie poo free zone .
Bands on vol 1 include Southern Fly , Regular Fries, Delakota, Pusherman and The Rain Band , if you like your indie with a bit of a groove, some soul amd conviction check out the playlist
