Duston Players is a family friendly amateur theatre group, based in Duston, Northampton. We have been serving the community of Duston for over 70 years and welcome anyone with an interest in amateur dramatics, on stage or behind the scenes, whether young or old, with experience or without.

Introducing Medea Director: April Pardoe

April is a well-known face in Northampton community theatre but this is her first time in the director’s chair. She also wrote this adaptation of Medea and is thoroughly enjoying the experience. You’ll remember it if you came to see Macbeth last October- we are looking forward to some more dusky nights to bring that atmospheric feel!

PIRATES OF THE CURRY BEAN AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Performances: 2nd-5th December 7:30pm, Matinee 5th December 2:30pm.

Auditions 28th July 7:30pm

Rehearsals Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm with some Sunday afternoons.

Eastfield Close Hub, NN5 6TJ

CAPTAIN COCKLE – Opening narrator. Could be played by a puppet. Adult, any gender. Small part, could be doubled up.

CAPTAIN JACK MARROW – Loveable rogue, based on Captain Jack Sparrow. Adult, any gender. Large part.

EUDBETTA DUCK – Dame. Recently widowed landlady of The Short Ship. Adult male, large part.

DIDDY DUCK – Husband to Eudbetta. Bit of an old soak, easily distracted by alcohol. Adult male. One scene at the end of the second half, so could be doubled up.

ELIZABETH DUCK – daughter of Eudbetta and Diddy. Based on Elizabeth Swann. A tomboy heroine with a tenacious attitude in love with Will Turnup. Young adult, female. In a lot of scenes but not a huge amount of lines.

WILL TURNUP – Captain Jack’s sidekick, besotted with Elizabeth. Based on Will Turner. Young adult, any gender. Large part.

These 6 characters below are Captain Jack’s crew and can be made your own i.e. voices, mannerisms, age, gender (other than Jake who must be male). Adults preferred. In a lot of the scenes and dance numbers so enthusiasm is essential, not a huge amount of lines.

PEGLEG PETE – One leg.

SCURVY SAM – Ship’s Cook.

ONE EYED WILLIE – Has an eyepatch.

LOFTY LARRY – Has a parrot.

DRIPPY DAN – Has a UTI.

CUTTHROAT JAKE – Camp as a row of tents.

PARROT – Voiced offstage. Typical parrot voice. Small part so could be doubled.

BIG BUCKLE BOB – Based on Bootstrap Bill. Intimidating. Adult, any gender. Has one scene in Act 1 so could be doubled up.

CAPTAIN HARRY CARRY – Pompous, upright British officer. Adult, any gender.

PRIVATE PARTS – Bumbling idiot. Few lines. Could be played by a child.

PRIVATE DANCER – As above.

CAPTAIN KNUCKLEBLOOD – Evil pirate Captain. Adult, any gender. In one scene so can be doubled up.

CLAM – Captain Knuckleblood’s crew. Baddie. Child’s part.

MUSSEL – As above.

SCAMPI – As above.

WHELK – As above.

SHARKFIN – Guardian of Davy Jones’ Knockers. Needs to be happy to go into the audience and interact. Adult, any gender. In one scene so can be doubled up.

WHALEBONE – As above. Sharkfin and Whalebone are a bit of a comedy double act. Could be played by an adult or confident child. Any gender. In one scene so can be doubled up.

DAVY JONES – Second Act sinister baddie. Comfortable in a mask/disguise. Adult, any gender. In one scene near the end so can be doubled up.
