Set up in 2005 by roots musician Kevin Buxton, KONTRA ROOTS PROMOTIONS is an informal organisation dedicated to promoting quality acoustic roots music in the Northamptonshire area and beyond. It founded and organises the legendary KONTRA ROOTS CLUB, as well as THE FINEDON SESSIONS concert venue. It also organises regular weekly music events at the unique JOULES YARD and folk roots events at KETTER

ING ARTS CENTRE. In addition, Kontra supplies acts for several other first-rate venues and festivals in the region.

KONTRA ROOTS CLUB spins around this Friday the 8th when we feature Kettering acoustic legends, THE ABRAHAMS, making a long overdue return to the club. Original, clever and wonderfully off-kilter, these very inventive musicians make music to bring a smile to the face. Also on the bill, and new to the club are ANTOINE & OWENA, an exceptional multi-instrumental duo who play an original blend of traditional and contemporary folk, plus we also have the fabulous DAN HARTLAND, a lauded, highly melodic and wryly humorous folk Americana singer-songwriter and accomplished fingerpicking guitarist. It’s the KONTRA ROOTS CLUB Christmas Special this coming Friday 14th when we’ll be celebrating a terrific twelve months at Kontra with a fantastic bill featuring probably our most successful local act, the superbly mellow and melodic HAZEYJANE, who will be performing with their full four piece lineup. Also on the bill are probably the club’s most applauded newcomers of the year, the high energy trio from Shrewsbury, TWO BLANK PAGES, who raised the roof back in March with an original and blistering set of yee-ha folk/country (plus wonderful harmonies). And we will of course be winding up the show as always with Earls Barton’s own barnstorming six piece folk-rock band, CORDWAINERS, playing us into Christmas with style and a few seasonal chestnuts! It’s the monthly acoustic night at the ROOFTOP ARTS CENTRE in Corby town centre tomorrow 5th December when we have our big Christmas Special. The party band this year are excellent blues and covers band TC & THE BOBCATS with special guests MATT CARTER and DAVE CLEMO & KAREN ANGELA plus seasonal poems courtesy of KEZZABELLE. It’s a 7.30 start, admission is free, there's a licensed bar, PLUS free homemade soup and crusty bread. It'll be a fab night and lot of fun so come on down! KONTRA ROOTS CLUB is back this Friday, the 23rd, with a stunning bill featuring a brand new classically trained quartet, GATHERING TIDES, who weave together folk, jazz, rock and more into a fabulously original musical stew. This is a real virtuoso band with a completely fresh approach to traditional and contemporary music. Also making their first appearance at the club are charismatic and popular Anglo-German harmony folk duo PAUL WALKER & KAREN PFEIFFER who play a mix of top class originals and covers. Previously advertised Belgian singer-songwriter Floatstone has unfortunately had to cancel, but excellent Abrahams' front man ROSS ALEXANDER will be taking over the opening slot. 8pm start at Earls Barton Working Mens' Club and only £3 admission.
