Northampton Shakespeare Project A group who aim to work through the complete works of Shakespeare over the course of an academic year

14/11/2023

UPDATE

Sadly, it has become too difficult for us to continue the Northampton Shakespeare Project on a weekly basis as we do not have enough people - it was something of a challenge to read Richard III with only 4 people!

We fully appreciate people are busy and know there are lots of other things going on and we have therefore decided to pause the project until the new year and have some questions below:

1: Would you be interested in occasionally meeting to read particular plays? If so please can you suggest below which plays you would like to do – we can then look at who would be available when to do these.

2: Would people also be interested in reading particular plays on particular dates – Romeo and Juliet near Valentines Day perhaps?

3: Would it be worth doing The Winters Tale before the Masque summer show auditions?

4: Would anyone be interested in reading all the sonnets (we estimate this could be done in 3 hours)?

5: For English/Drama teacher friends would any of your students be interested in sessions on their set texts?

Thank you to everyone for your interest in and support of this project so far, we very much hope to be able to continue it in some way in the new year.

The sessions we have done have been very enjoyable and we hope you have enjoyed them too!

Best wishes - John and April

We couldn’t let today go by without marking the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s First Folio. We are very lucky to have a such a complete record of the work of England’s greatest playwright.

Northampton Shakespeare Project aims to read the complete works of Shakespeare over the course of an academic year and we would be delighted to welcome anyone who would like to be involved. We meet on Monday evenings during term time at 7pm at The Black Prince. Each session costs £10 - we do a reading of one script a week with a discussion on key points and themes. Please contact April Pardoe for more information

I'd be very grateful for any feedback about the project.

If you have been to any sessions and if you haven't but would like to

Thank you for your interest in the Northampton Shakespeare Project

As we are now at the first half term since we started the project I thought it would be a good opportunity to ask for some feedback.

I'd very grateful if you would take a few minutes to let John and I know how you are finding the experience so far - even if you have only been to one session

We completely understand that most people will drop in and out depending on other commitments but are keen to find an approach that works best for as many people as possible.

In terms of the chronological as written approach, this does mean there is a reasonable chunk of history plays together which can be very heavy going!

Would people prefer to move to a different method of working through the plays - perhaps thematic (romance/magic/etc) or seasonal (Twelfth Night as close as possible to that date or Romeo and Juliet on Valentines Day)

if you have a suggestion for a theme please do let me know
