**Recycling the Viking style :)**
A while ago I was given somebody’s slightly moth-eaten, most likely first attempt at sewing a medieval coat, which had been sitting at the bottom of a wardrobe for quite some time :) I was told to either use it or throw it away.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t salvageable in its original form. Luckily, once I cleaned it and took it apart, I found just enough usable fabric to make a klappenrock coat. I added some raw linen trims that I think go well with dark blue wool.
If you look closely, you might still notice a couple of little patches here and there. But I think they only add character!
Fabric in Viking times was precious, so it would have been used, repaired and recycled for as long as possible. So, in a way, this coat is continuing that tradition. :)
And what do you think? Was it worth long hours of hand sewing or would they be better spent on making something from new fabric?
