Our Story

Sanctuary is a unique 24-hour site-specific public art laboratory, an experimental space that brings together new work ranging from light installations and radio transmissions, to digital video and performance. Artists and members of the public come together for 24 hours to form a temporary community within the beautiful Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park. The combination of the landscape, the artworks and the people make this a very special event and we’re looking forward to meeting you there. The Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park is a specially designated area that is low in light pollution and Sanctuary takes place within the park. Remote, beautiful and mostly ‘electronically dark’, It is a sanctuary from both light pollution and world wide connectedness. Sanctuary explores light and dark, while also exploring 'electronic darkness' creating a space to investigate ideas around technology, place and culture. In the future will we need to designate places away from communication networks where who we are and what we do is unknown? Sanctuary is free. Camping available. Sanctuary is suitable for all ages. www.sanctuarylab.org For more info on the Dark Outside FM see www.darkoutside.co.uk Twitter: @sanctuarylab Main page image: Mike Bolam
