🎭 This morning our Home Ed Drama groups worked on developing performance skills through voice, movement, characterisation and storytelling!
We began with breathing techniques and vocal warm ups, focusing on breath control, vocal support, articulation and projection — helping performers build confidence and prepare their voices for performance.
Our younger group explored how actors can transform an ordinary chair into something completely different using imagination, physical theatre and improvisation. They experimented with how movement, facial expression and vocal choices can communicate a character and tell a story.
Our older group developed this further by exploring the chair as a piece of symbolism — discovering how one object can represent ideas such as power, loss, memory, isolation and freedom.
They created scenes using:
✨ Subtext — exploring the thoughts, feelings and intentions beneath a character’s words.
✨ Character objectives — identifying what a character wants and how they pursue it.
✨ Physical characterisation — using posture, gesture, pace and spatial choices to reveal character.
✨ Improvisation — creating believable moments, responding to others and making performance choices.
✨ Status and relationships — showing power dynamics and connections between characters.
✨ Ensemble skills — listening, reacting and collaborating to create scenes.
