Over the past couple years, I have had the honour of working with Newry Creative Minds ASD group. It started as an experiment that led to us publishing a poetry book together to shout out to our local community about who they are, and now they have launched a podcast dispelling autism myths, 'Tism Talks'. I love these sessions; guaranteed laughs, swearing, hard-hitting insights, always learning more than I teach. Thanks to the Youth Engagement Service for everything they do, including the constant sourcing of funds to allow groups like this to continue to meet. It changes lives. Here's to whatever comes next!

Out tonight supporting new music thanks to . In awe of some of the lyrics coming through from newly established bands. If you like music, you like poetry, and we run lyrics-inspired sessions to get young people writing the kind of stuff they want to read, sing, or roar.

Looking forward to this one!

Join Anne Harper for “Creative Minds”, a music and creative writing workshop as part of our Cityside Sessions residency.

For young people, having a voice and feeling heard are essential to their mental health and self-worth. Many young people often feel excluded and struggle to express themselves or be acknowledged. One of the most effective ways to support them is by nurturing their creativity. Encouraging self-expression in ways that feel natural to each individual - especially through the arts - can be deeply empowering. Using music as a prompt for poetry, for example, is a powerful way to unlock emotions, ideas, and imagery.

This workshop uses live music to trigger ideas for creative writing, focusing on music appreciation, mindful listening, and gentle writing activities that encourage creative expression. Essentially, it is low-demand, flexible, and participant-led, making it ideal for all abilities, personalities, and educational levels.

Suggested ages 12-18
Duration 100 mins (includes break)
Saturday 14th June, 2-4pm
Cityside Retail Park, Belfast.
