The Schomberg Society is delighted to be hosting events this weekend to mark 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!

On Saturday, we are looking forward to hosting our ‘Hands-On Heritage for Kids’ event in Reivers House from 10am - 11.30am! 🙌

This will be a fantastic opportunity for weans to enjoy Ulster-Scots cookery workshops, interactive Ulster-Scots storytelling and language sessions, followed by Ulster-Scots creative arts and crafts activities! 🧑‍🍳 🗣️ 🖍️

Please note this event is already fully booked. ✅

We look forward to seeing all of the weans on Saturday morning! Refreshments will be provided! 🥞🧃

On behalf of everyone in the Schomberg Society, we would like to wish two of our members, Christopher and Megan, every happiness as they prepare to 'tie the knot' tomorrow! 👰🤵‍♂️💍

Christopher and Megan are both valued members of our Schomberg Fife and Drum and within the Schomberg Society, they both help to organise and oversee many of our Ulster-Scots events, programmes and activities which take place throughout the whole year.

Their dedication and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated by everyone within the Society, and so many of our members are delighted to be celebrating such a special occasion with them tomorrow. ❤️

Congratulations to these three pupils from Moneyrea Primary School who were presented with their Foundation Certificates in Piping! 👏

It was brilliant to work along with Moneyrea Primary School to facilitate the weekly Highland Bagpipes Tuition Programme with Tutor Ian Burrows, and we look forward to commencing the programme again now in the new school term! 🙌

Our Kirknarra School of Dance is really excited to be starting our new term of Scottish Highland Dance classes in both Kilkeel and Annalong! 🙌

𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄... 👇

📍Our Kilkeel classes will take place on Mondays in Reivers House and our Annalong classes will be on Wednesdays in Mullartown House Sports Hall.

⏰ Classes for new beginners are from 3.30pm each week in both venues.

🩰 All children from P2+ are more than welcome to come along to our classes!

💫 Classes will be tutored by Former Ulster Champion Kathryn Stewart and provide a fantastic opportunity for children to learn Scottish Highland Dancing, perform at events, take part in competitions, make new friends and have great fun!

🏆 We are extremely proud of all that our Kirknarra School of Dance has achieved, and the incredible opportunities it has brought to so many children and young people. Including of course, being the home to a current 𝗨𝗹𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 (Kirknarra Dancer Bethany Shields - who has won the Ulster Champion title twice!)

Our band was accompanied by three current Highland Dance Champions, performing as part of the Kathryn Stewart Highland Dance Display Team! ♥️

‘The Silence Between Guns’ 🔥🇺🇸

“Who are you? Really?” The American Revolution rages on, the song of freedom in the air. A large America fleet, assembled by none other than Paul Revere, has surrounded Scottish Highlanders in the Penobscot Bay. Cut off and desperately outnumbered, the Highland Regiment find themselves under siege and must do what they can to endure. Among their number is Alexander Laird, a Lieutenant from Ulster, who when he meets the revolutionary Alison Galloway faces the ultimate test of his loyalty.

A new play, “The Silence Between Guns” from Strabane playwright, Andrew Tinney will be staged as part of this year’s Maiden City Festival. The play, which has been made possible through funding from the Department for Communities (Communities NI) under their USA – NI 250 Fund, looks at the issues facing Ulster-Scots emigrants in America at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Caught on both sides of the conflict, the play examines how the loyalties of the community were split in defence of Britain and aggression towards it.

Starring Andrew Porter, James Thompson and Tirna-Kate Fox, the production will be staged at New Gate Arts and Culture Centre at 8pm on Wednesday 29th July, before embarking on a short tour to Kilkeel and Newtownstewart.

Tickets for the 29th July performance are available through New Gate Arts and Culture Centre at www.newgatearts.com and are priced at £10 🎟️
