Damp Stories - art and conversation workshop
Saturday 26 Sept, 2-4pm
ALMA Artspace
FREE (booking essential)

Join Artist, Plumber and Retrofit Consultant Sovay Berriman Sovay Berriman for a unique and insightful art workshop hosted by ALMA Artspace.

The workshop is designed to allow a gentle and creative opportunity to explore the theme of living with damp. We will make artworks using collage, paint, and drawing materials, and share conversation around our experiences.

Touching upon themes such as precarious housing, environmental impacts upon housing stock, and financial and climate-crisis factors, this event is primarily aimed at adults, but open to everyone.

This is the first in a series of workshops that are part of Sovay Berriman’s research into living with damp. This research is ongoing and informs Sovay’s current studio practice, as well as their research around the national transition to energy efficiency and low-carbon heating.

It is vital that we all are able to contribute to the often confusing conversations about how we heat our homes, how we maintain good indoor air quality, and how we increase our energy efficiency.

There will be no audio recording. Photographs will be taken, faces will be avoided.

This is a free event with limited spaces. If after booking you find you can no longer attend, please let us know so that someone else may take your place.

Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Also supported by Alma Artspace CIC.

The ‘Sea, Swallow Me’ exhibition is taking shape…

Thinking about ‘Cornwall’s Creative Heroes’, the exhibition is influenced by local artists, writers and makers who have been inspired by the landscape, sea and nature.

Working with Matt from TONER, the work experience group (a new collective who have called themselves ‘Cornish Pixies’) have created, curated and installed the exhibition.

Come and see what the artists and curators have been making at their exhibition opening on Friday 24th July, 3pm - 5pm.

It’s such a pleasure to have these inspiring young creatives in the space. Thank you for the opportunity Screen Cornwall and Kernow Youth Collective.

A call-out for Strange Dreams contributors 🐚

Chloe Bonfield Bonfield wants to hear your dreams, thoughts, poems and words about your connection to the Cornish landscape.

A note from the artist ~~

Send me your Voice Notes as part of Strange Dreams

I am putting out an open call to participate in a work I am making for 2026. Strange Dreams is part of a series of projects specific to location, exploring material enquiries and site specific responses that are gently subversive - through painting, sculpture and sound.

I am inviting participants to send me their voice notes, speaking about their dreams about land and time outside. This can be about a personal connection, a hope for the future, a lost land, a displaced feeling, a feeling of belonging, love or pure fantasy.
Story, poem, ramble, sound Scape/field recording.

I am keeping this broad and direct, as it is truly an experiment. To see what bubbles up.

Please be respectful that I will be listening to all of your voice notes. Also please be aware that your voices may be layered and made into sound works - and permission for me to do so will be part of taking part.

I won’t be making commercial work from the sounds, but they will be potentially available in gallery shows this year.

Email [email protected] to participate.

I will reply with all the details and information ~~

Strange Dreams is now showing at ALMA until 18 July (open Wed - Fri, 10am - 3pm or by appointment)
