Urban Echoes was our tour of Baneswell in collaboration with Cargo-Theater from Freiburg. It's been wonderful to explore making and celebrating this neighbourhood with these creative people. Here are some pictures illustrating live art, music, poetry, dance, ritual, postcard writing, songs and a walk. The second part of Urban Echoes happens in Freiburg on 24 and 25 July.

Thanks to The Place Newport for hosting and to for funding.

Morning Baneswell, neighbours, new friends and acquaintances, Facebook friends and followers. Our Urban Echoes project finished yesterday. We did two performance tours of the neighbourhood, curated an exhibition of local artists and a concert at The Place Newport last night. I wanted to tell you that we had people from Cardiff, Bristol, Edinburgh, Dundee and Newcastle Emlyn on the tours... as well as musicians from Freiburg in Germany participating. What's obvious to everyone is that the place needs some love but the overriding feedback has been that the people who live and work here are warm, friendly and real. That's you Baneswell... warm, friendly and real. My friend who lived in Berlin asked me why people were so nice here, why people stopped to chat and wished them well (called them love). It's not common everywhere. It's special to here, the city, maybe Wales. It's not all been rosey... we were shouted at a couple of times when rehearsing but when we chatted to those we'd annoyed and explained what we were doing it was alright... more than alright, we met some fascinating people with incredible life stories. I understand some of the frustrations of living here... I too have unwanted cat s**t in the garden, my housemate stepped in it and it's not pleasant. However I am so grateful to my neighbours who support and encourage a friendly and positive outlook whilst staying rooted to what we can do better and what we should be campaigning for. Thank you... to everyone who shared comments, supported us, came a long, opened a front door when we passed and smiled at us celebrating Baneswell. I've lived here for 10 years... the longest I've lived anywhere in my life. It must be a good place. We all live here. That means something... something good. I hope you have a lovely Sunday. Gareth

Last nights performance of Urban Echoes started with a poem written and recited by Becky Haycock. Dear Newport is an ode to the city and is heartfelt, funny and poignant. Thank you Becky for starting an amazing evening with your brilliant words and thank you for your support over the last weeks. Much love from us Clarks X

"Good Morning... we started making a walking performance tour of Baneswell (with music) last week. You may have heard us. The first tour is on Thursday and starts at The Place on Bridge Street at 7pm sharp... we visit the site where Le Pub used to be on Caxton Place... and we celebrate the Baneswell Express before heading up Blewitt Street to the end of Victoria Crescent for a special ceremony. Then we walk on to St Mary's Street, up St Edward Street and pause at the (Cwtch) alley at the top to reminisce a little. We share a story on Graham Street and walk on to St Julian Street before climbing up to St Woolos. We pause at Clifton Park to write postcards and then easy through the lanes back to Jones Street and then cut back on to St Mary's Street and down Beaufort Terrace to Mouse Park. This will be a fun stop before we head to Baileys and pay homage to last standing pub in Baneswell. We have a collective of international musicians and local people to entertain you on this walk that last approx an hour. Do come to some or all of it if you can or give us a wave as we pass by. Message us for more details. Xx
