A couple months ago I was approached to do a very special commission for a returning customer to my Etsy shop. I was truly honoured and so excited to make something unique and special for her to keep forever.

The poem? I carry your heart with me by E. E. Cummings. We went through style options and I KNEW I wanted to use hand made paper- which if you’ve seen my previous posts you’ll know it wasn’t easy.

But once I nailed the paper prep and practiced the writing style I was ready to go. And I was super thrilled with the results.

As was she! I made an envelope and sealed it with a Wax seal and off it went.

I’m always open to trying new things and cannot wait for the next challenge. Thank you Kate for believing in me.

I’m hoping the wonderful calligraphy community will come to aid!

Working on a special piece and I’m having some trouble. I’m using handmade paper which is VERY textured! I’ve already done 3 coats of hairspray and using the lightest touch possible but I still get some bleed and I’m catching fibres.

Do I add more Gum Arabic to the ink or try another coat of hairspray. OR BOTH! Help me calligraphers of Instagram!

When you manage to get paint on the SECOND attempt at a card, it’s 10pm and you have work in the morning so no time to make a THIRD card... what do you do?

Well, I ripped the edges off the card and painted them gold, taking the blue paint away and leaving a super elegant finish to third piece! Think I should offer a deckled edge on these illuminated letters?
