Many activities are completely FREE, while some performances and workshops require advance booking—check the programme carefully and scan the QR code for more information.

You may notice that some of our regular activities are missing. Image 2 explains why September looks different.

Independent venues and third spaces like The Place need people to use them. You can help by showing up, signing up, buying a ticket or a cake, trying something new, volunteering, sharing this post and telling people about what we do.

We’re welcoming Neither Here Nor There to The Place — an intimate live art experience created and hosted by Jo Fong & Sonia Hughes.

A short walk.
A room full of people.
A series of six-minute conversations.

Every six minutes, the conversation changes as you meet someone new, explore a different question and take a little time to listen.

At the heart of it all is one question:

How can we live together?

Described by audiences as “thought provoking, cathartic and quite lovely” and “surprising, challenging, rewarding, beautiful, moving.”

🐾 PAWtraits: Doggy Life Drawing ✏️

Join fellow dog lovers and creatives for an evening of life drawing with a very special four-legged model!

Led by Newport artist Jonathan Sherwood, you’ll learn to capture movement, character and form through guided sketching exercises.

🎸 20th Century Guitar: A Classical Guitar Recital

Multi-award-winning guitarist Kianush Robeson visits Newport as part of his mini tour of South Wales.

Experience an innovative, exciting and moving programme of 20th-century classical guitar music from Spain, Italy, Britain and beyond.

Through the music, Kianush will explore the influence of two of the world’s greatest guitarists—Andrés Segovia and Julian Bream—with thoughtful introductions along the way.
