( scroll through to see sunset on the water in the train over from Edinburgh and views from the gallery windows of the sea - the light is so special there it doesn’t really do it justice ). "By spending time in nature, I feel connected to something beyond myself. It soothes my soul.
Through my paintings I aim to bring this experience of the outdoors inside, visualising contexts beyond what the eye can see.
The core of my recent body of work revolves around themes of spirituality, darkness and solitude, embodied through a kind of “altar-making” in the form of oil paintings. I draw inspiration from mysticism, folklore and observing nature."

Komorebi (木漏れ日) is a Japanese word consisting of the characters for ‘tree’ (木), ‘to leak’ (漏れ), and ‘sun’ (日). It describes the phenomenon of sunlight filtering through a canopy of trees, creating shifting, dappled patterns on the forest floor

We think Millie Farmer has captured this phenomenon perfectly in her beautiful paintings of light filtering through foliage

"I enjoy the act of painting and the physicality of the paintwork on the canvas and so my process of working involves experimenting with base layers of varied materials in order to constantly develop new experiences within each painting".
