✨We are delighted to host Scottish saxophonist and composer Matt
Carmichael this festival with his powerfully emotive blend of melodic jazz and folk music.

We were able to catch Matt recently and ask on the themes of the ancient festival of Lughnasadh 🌾’What energy, stories, or sounds are you bringing with you to the stage this year?’ 🌾

'I’ll be bringing my live band featuring some of Scotland’s best musicians - Charlie Stewart (fiddle), Chris Amer (guitars), James Mackay (guitars), Ali Watson (bass) and Roan Anderson (drums)… double guitar line-up will be fun, we’ve not done that before on a live gig, I’ll be playing saxophone and a little bit of piano.

The music will be from my last album Dancing with Embers as well as things from our next album coming later this year which evolves our Scottish Folk-Jazz sound with more indie influences, reflecting a personal journey of supporting a loved one and holding on to hope.'

Recently we caught up with Emma to ask - on the theme of movement and gathering - 🌾’What energy, stories, or sounds are you bringing with you to the stage this year?’ 🌾

“I released my fourth solo album ‘Begging The Night To Take Hold’ in September 2025 and have been bringing the songs to life on stage with my current trio of guitar, keys and cello since then. I am very lucky to play with the fantastic musicians Graeme Smilie (keys/bass) and Pete Harvey (cello), and as well as the new album we delve into new arrangements of older songs from the first 3 albums.

Playing Lughnasadh Festival is a lovely event to look forward to during the summer and I also hope to get the chance to explore Newport-on-Tay whilst there as I’ve only visited once before.”
