Festival recap: final concert! (Saturday 15th August)
💥 This year’s festival ended with the furious finale of Brahms’ G minor piano quartet, alongside Bartok’s Romanian folk dances, Ligeti, Haydn and a world premiere for string quartet by the fabulous Emily Linane
A huge thank you to all of our wonderful performers, audience members, venues, trustees James Smith and Deb Thorne, donors (Ros and Alan Share, Community Foundation NE, Hadrian Trust, the Lit and Phil), and volunteers who made everything happen!

Special mention goes to the festival’s canine companion Misty who was also needed a nap by the end of the week after many many back scratches (slide 6)

Festival recap: day 2!
Friday 14th was packed full, with three different concerts!
🎻At 12pm, school-age musicians who had been working with cellists Deb Thorne and Stephen Orton over the Summer gave a wonderful concert of Mozart, Kodaly and Glazunov (slide 2).
💃Immediately after at 1pm, our festival musicians performed a programme of baroque music to a full house, tracing connections between Geminiani, Bach, and local baroque composers Charles Avison and John Garth (slide 3)
🏃At 7pm, our audience enjoyed one more concert at Jesmond’s United Reformed Church, exploring the idea of theme and variations across Britten’s 3rd suite for cello and Beethoven’s ‘harp’ string quartet (slide 4)

Festival recap: Opening concert!
🎶What a night! On the evening of Thursday 13th August, after several days rehearsing, we began with a programme centred around Dvorak’s ‘American Quintet’. Great to have almost a full house at the Lit and Phil! After audiences were delighted by music by Beach, Martinu, Janacek and Dvorak our performers enjoyed a well-deserved pub dinner on the Quayside 😊🥳
