Hut on the Green The Hut on the Green, an exciting new arts project nestled within the heart of Gosforth Central Park.

Set to open its doors in September 2024, this innovative space will be a vibrant hub for creative expression and cultural enrichment. At The Hut on the Green, we envision a place where poeople from all walks of life can come together to explore, learn, and create. Our mission is to provide a diverse range of talks, classes, workshops, and cultural events that will not only benefit the local Gosforth community but also serve as a catalyst for personal growth and community connection.

Is anyone else secretly dreaming about the cool nights of autumn… in this weather? 🍂☀️

While we’re enjoying the sunshine, we’ve been busy putting together our biggest and most varied programme of creative courses yet—and it’s finally here!

It’s at times like this, when we launch a new programme, that we stop and realise just how many different creative things happen inside our little HUT. From upholstery to ceramics, woodwork to sewing, photography to garden design, alongside much-loved favourites like life drawing, painting and so much more, there’s something for everyone.

And it seems we’re not the only ones excited… tickets are already flying out, with some classes already close to selling out!

Whether you’ve been meaning to learn a new skill, meet like-minded people or simply carve out a little time to be creative, we’d love to welcome you this autumn. (But be quick!)

We’re really excited to have our Introduction to Dressmaking course starting this June.

It’s a 6-week course designed for complete beginners — the sort of class for people who have always fancied learning to sew but maybe never quite known where to start.

Over the course, we will guide you through everything step by step. You’ll learn how to use a sewing machine properly, how commercial sewing patterns actually work, and how to turn flat pieces of fabric into clothes you can genuinely wear. By the end of the course you’ll have made your own pyjama bottoms and a jersey T-shirt — which feels pretty magic when you think about it.

We have sewing machines here at the HUT, although if you already own one you’re welcome to bring it along and learn on your own machine. The first session will also cover choosing fabrics and patterns, where to buy them, and all the bits that can feel slightly overwhelming when you first start out.

Honestly, there’s something really satisfying about learning to make your own clothes. Once you start understanding how garments are put together, you never quite look at clothes in the same way again.

A word of warning before signing up for this one… making your own clothes can become very addictive!

We’re really excited to be hosting at our HUT.

They will be running a Fire Starter event — a one-day gathering for creatives who teach. People who run workshops, courses, or programmes and are starting to ask deeper questions about their teaching.

It’s not a course on how to teach, or how to market what you do. It’s a day to step back. To reflect on WHY you teach, WHAT you teach, and what you really want it to become.

Through a series of guided exercises and conversations, you’ll have time to think properly about your teaching practice. To explore what makes learning genuinely creative and transformative. And to consider how your teaching can feel more aligned with who you are now, and where you want to go next.

It’s also about connection — being in a room with other thoughtful, experienced creative teachers, all doing that same piece of work. There’s a lot of value in that shared space.

This feels like a natural extension of what we’re building here at HUT on the Green. So much of what happens here is about more than just learning a skill — it’s about the experience, connection, and creating something meaningful. That applies just as much to the people teaching as it does to those attending.

This event is about supporting that next layer — helping creative teachers develop their practice in a way that feels thoughtful and intentional

By the end of the day, there will be lots of new ideas, fresh energy, and a clearer sense of direction — as well as something tangible to take forward.

We’re keeping it small (just 20 places) so book soon if you are keen to come.

We’re really looking forward to this one — it will be a special day.
