Gosforth Civic Theatre Gosforth Civic Theatre, your home for powerful performances, live music and family entertainment.
(1)

Opened in 2016, Gosforth Civic Theatre (GCT) is an independent arts venue, café bar, events space and community hub three miles north of Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. GCT programmes high-quality theatre, memorable live music events and diverse performances. GCT is a unique social enterprise; income from ticket sales, space rental, donations and food and drink sales is used to provide opportunit

ies for young people and people with learning disabilities to train, perform, and belong, ultimately creating the world they want to live in. It was founded by disability arts charity Liberdade community development trust (pronounced lib-er-dar-jie). Founded in 2003, Liberdade began as an apprenticeship scheme to support and enable a group of young people with learning disabilities to set up and run their own theatre company. In 2012 the company members wanted to open a theatre where everyone was welcome, they wanted to have jobs in their theatre and to provide the opportunities they’d had for other young people, so Gosforth Civic Theatre became a reality. Now, those company members play an essential role in its governance and future direction.

We're so proud that GCT’s Youth Dance has been selected to perform at the Making Moves National Platform at Sadler's Wells East as part of YFX 2026! 🎉

Our dancers have been part of Making Moves, Sadler's Wells nationwide choreography and performance project, drawing on the Thick & Tight digital toolkit to create an exciting dance.

In the Spring term, we shared our piece at a regional Making Moves platform alongside other schools and youth groups from across the region. From this, just eight groups were selected to progress to the National Platform.

We're honoured to be one of those eight groups and excited to bring our work to the Sadler's Wells East stage! A huge congratulations to our dancers and leaders whose hard work has made this possible.

Join Mouthful for a special album launch celebration 🎶

After two decades of music making, vocal quartet Mouthful are releasing their first album.

Tender, powerful, funky and beautiful, this new recording brings together singers from the many choirs they lead across the North East and Cumbria, including GCT's resident choir, Mouthful Voices.

A very special evening of vocal harmony from a group at the top of their game.

Wed 1 July | Doors 7pm | Starts 7.30pm

Calling all youth! Need a place to study? Join us at GCT for free revision sessions 📓✍🏻

We had our first Youth Board meeting last week! Our Youth Board will have a say in what happens at GCT and bring new ideas to make more events and activities for young people. Their first idea was to create a 'GCT Revision room' using our studio. So it's happening from today!

Our studio space will be available on the following dates / times for young people 13+ years to use to revise. We will provide the space, great Wi-Fi and juice/water (feel free to bring your own food or use our fab cafe). You can book a space in one of our sessions. Session lengths vary from 90 mins to 3 hours and spaces are limited to 12 per session: https://gosforthcivictheatre.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/1173687158

This , we stand 🧡

This Refugee Week, we’re championing welcome in our community. Refugee Week may last seven days, but the movement for change continues all year round. Every conversation, connection, and act of welcome matters. Change doesn't happen overnight, but together, our actions (no matter how small) can create a lasting impact in our communities and help build a more welcoming future.

Did you know the very first couple to say “I do” at Gosforth Civic Theatre was our own Events Manager? 💍

After years of hosting wedding receptions, we finally hosted our very first wedding ceremony in 2021 -and it was our own Events Manager who became the first person to tie the knot here.

We secured our wedding licence in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, opening a new chapter for us as a licensed wedding venue.

And it got us wondering… before we took over the building in 2016, when it was still Gosforth Civic Hall, did you ever attend a wedding here? Or know someone who did?

We’d absolutely love to hear your stories ❤️
