Thanks to Alan Dimmick for the photos of 'Mother Curator' at the Reid, Glasgow (3rd photo my own). Thank you again to Emma Scarlett , Jenny Brownrigg and John Farrell for putting together the exhibition. The show is closed now as we begin to install our Year 2 Painting & Printmaking exhibition.

For me, parenting takes many forms. The works I showed are not about caring for my own child, though of course my embodied knowledge and experience as a parent is layered onto other forms of intergeneration caring and art making. It's been great to see so many artists in this exhibition making work alongside parenting and life commitments.

My works were shown alongside Sara Barker's sculpture 'Reenactment', Shauna McMullan's laser cut photo 'Scotland at my toes, England at the tips of my fingers, out-takes', Lesley Punton's drawing 'Les Périades' and Anna Almqvist Romanus's painting 'Stack'.

Delighted to be including sculptural work and prints, including my collaboration with in the upcoming show 'Mother Curator' at the Reid Gallery alongside such a brilliant roster of artists, both students and staff. Especially lovely to place work alongside Sara Barker , the beginnings of working together and discussing our overlapping practices and interests.

Huge thanks to Emma Scarlett, Jenny Brownrigg, John Farrell, Malcom and Michael for bringing the show together. I can't be in Glasgow for the opening tomorrow but it's already looking fantastic due to everyone input and I'm looking forward to seeing it finalised next week.

Mother Curator
10th – 31st January 2026
Reid Gallery
https://gsaexhibitions.co.uk/exhibition/mother-curator/

This exhibition, curated by 4th year Fine Art student Emma Scarlett, brings together existing and new work by GSA staff and students who are mothers. Conversations around gender roles and caregiving have been ongoing for generations, but the significance of motherhood is still frequently undervalued. The exhibition aims to transform this narrative by celebrating motherhood in its fullness, its challenges, its strengths and its profound creativity. By sharing lived experiences through their work, Mother Curator hopes to create space for new perspectives.

Artists are Chantal Balmer, Sara Barker, Kate Davis, Louise Donnelly, Fiona Glen, Emma Keogh, Lorna Macintyre, Lindsey McAulay, Shauna McMullan, Kim McNeil, Rosie Morris, Maya El Nahal, Thomai Pnevmonidou, Lesley Punton, Susan Roan, Fiona Robertson, Anna Almqvist Romanus, Emma Scarlett, Annabel Sharp, Niketa Shetty, Bex Šik and Jennifer Wicks, Stephanie Smith (SMITH/STEWART), Felicity Steers and Josie Williams.

This exhibition was selected from a GSA Staff and Student Open Call.

When you remember to look up..!

I took instagram off my phone at the beginning of last summer so I could be in the real world more. I can still access it on a clunky way on my laptop, where the user-interface isn't so gripping so I've not been on much at all. I meant to schedule some posts and I haven't (will aim to). I'm generally busy working and when I can enjoying developing some work for 2026.
Sorry to anyone I am slow to get back to on this. The best way to contact me is via email ([email protected])

Here's a nice view this morning - isn't the North East coast sublime?

Last month felt like a whirl-wind and I’m just starting to catch up with myself…

Immediately after my exhibition GESTURES in Healey I started a fantastic new job as a Lecturer in Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art with a fantastic team of people. I still don’t have a studio and our house is completely upside down, with my studio in plastic bags in our dining room - with just about enough space to pull out our chairs. Trying to get on top of things and it’s hard to make work right now, but also hoping to take stock and reflect.

Making and publishing prints for the first time with and have been wonderful experiences this year. New processes and collaborations, as well as carving out a space and time to make work. Here’s me drawing at Hole Editions, where I’ve really enjoyed reconnecting with drawing as a process to build a small series of works that communicate memories and connect with others. I will have one more to share before the year is out. Just getting my ducks in a row…

The last one I'm going to share from GESTURES for now. Hope that's given a sense of things. The works were conceived for the space, thinking about the height hands sit, and votives, and offerings and gestures involved through caring and making artworks - both nostalgic and complicated. I've archived more of the work and install shots on my website. x
