David Hockney was one of Britain's most loved artists, and he will be greatly missed❤️
This wonderful portrait of David was painted by artist, and long-time friend, Brenda Zlamany and is currently on display at the Laing. Brenda says about the making of the painting, 'The last time I saw David was at his studio in London, where Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy played The Rite of Spring. He sat across the room dressed in black, listening with unmistakable joy. Something in his posture summoned Whistler's Mother — and that became the painting. I never intended it to be a goodbye.'
One of our staff members says 'I can hear him laughing when I look at the picture - a real testament to the power of art.' We hope that everyone who sees this painting can hear his laugh too and celebrate his extraordinary life.
