The Stand Comedy Club Newcastle is home to weekly mixed bills like our legendary Red Raw new comedy night every Wednesday, and our professional mixed bills every Friday and Saturday. Built on the success of our sister venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow we've finally opened in Newcastle. Attracting some of the biggest names in comedy while supporting new local acts there's something for everything, come along and find out what all the fuss is about.

The winner of the inaugural McTavish Award for 2026 is Chris Forbes, with his show Father Christmas.

Congratulations Chris, who has created a world-class show that deserves to be recognised and celebrated.

Chris has won £2.5k sponsored by the W Edinburgh, development mentoring by The Comedy Unit, and a Fringe run with The Stand next year and/or a tour in The Stand’s venues.

We'd like to thank everyone who has been a part of making this award become a reality. Our amazing volunteer judges and industry panel, our fantastic sponsors The List and The W Edinburgh, fellow Fringe Venues with their support in organising tickets, and all the incredible acts on the Scottish Comedy Scene.

Finally, we'd like to thank the man who this award is named after, Paul Sneddon/Vladimir McTavish. During his decades long career, Paul inspired and championed so many Scottish comedians to help them thrive and meet their full potential. We hope this award continues his legacy of kindness, compassion, and uplifting Scottish talent.

The need for the McTavish Awards has been further validated by no Scottish acts making the Edinburgh Comedy Awards who have once again not included a single Scottish based act in their shortlists for the tenth year in a row. We believe stand-up comedy in Scotland is every bit as vibrant and creative as anywhere else and worth acknowledging and celebrating in the world’s largest arts festival that is hosted in our own capital city.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the first year of the McTavish Award, we'll see you next year.
