A must see for fans of improvised music at the Star and Shadow this coming Tuesday when we present one of only two UK appearances from the brilliant improvisational duo of Seijiro Murayama and Jean-Luc Guionnet - their other appearance other being at Cafe OTO in London.

Seijiro Murayama has played with some of Japan’s most renowned noise groups, including Fush*tusha (Keiji Haino) and A.N.P. (K.K. Null). Since relocating to France, his collaborations have extended into dance, theatre and performance, electro acoustic composition and festival curation. Murayama has also formed ongoing partnerships with many extraordinary musicians and composers. Improvisation has always been the major concern for him and his approach is based on attention to space and place, to the energy of the audience and to the quality and perception of silence on various levels.

Jean-Luc Guionnet is a French multi-instrumentalist, composer, philosopher and visual artist and a long term collaborator and fellow traveller with Seijiro in improvisation. Originally an organist, he moved to saxophone as it was 'easier to carry about' and has since been described as one of the 'world's greatest living saxophonists' (The Wire).

BOOED AT CANNES. SAVAGED BY CRITICS. REAPPRAISED AS A CULT CLASSIC.

THE BROWN BUNNY comes to the Star & Shadow this September.

Vincent Gallo stars as motorcycle racer Bud Clay, travelling alone across America while haunted by memories of his former lover Daisy, played by Chloë Sevigny.

Spare, hypnotic and deeply melancholy, THE BROWN BUNNY became one of the most notorious independent films of the 2000s following its disastrous Cannes debut. More than two decades later, the film has undergone a remarkable critical reappraisal.

See what all the fuss was about.
Please note: Contains strong s*x scenes. 18+ only.

LOVE. WORK. ADULTHOOD. ANTOINE DOINEL IS BAD AT ALL THREE.

François Truffaut’s STOLEN KISSES comes to the Star & Shadow next week.

Fresh out of the army, Antoine drifts through a succession of jobs, stumbles into detective work and finds his romantic life getting increasingly complicated.

Jean-Pierre Léaud is endlessly charming as Truffaut’s alter ego in this funny, tender and effortlessly stylish French New Wave favourite.

Romantic, bittersweet and beautifully observed, STOLEN KISSES captures all the awkwardness of trying to find your place in the world — and falling in love along the way.

TRAPPED BETWEEN TWO ARMIES. AND IT’S ABOUT TO GET WORSE.

This Sunday, NO MAN’S LAND comes to the Star & Shadow.

Bosnia, 1993. Soldiers from opposing sides are stranded together in a trench between enemy lines. What begins as a desperate stand-off quickly descends into chaos as peacekeepers, politicians and the world’s media get involved.

Darkly funny, brutally tense and fiercely anti-war, Denis Tanović’s Academy Award-winning satire exposes the sheer absurdity of conflict.
